Here's a natural decongestant for babies/toddlers: Cut an onion into chunks and place in a bowl. Sprinkle with a tablespoon of sugar, cover and refrigerate for a couple of hours. The syrup that is created makes a great natural decongestant, and is sweet to the taste! -- Angela from Germany

I use cornstarch mixed with a little petroleum jelly when my son has a diaper rash. It has worked much better for him than the commercial ointment, and it is a much cheaper. -- Tiffany Poole

Put 4 oz. of warm water in a bottle. Add a little more than a pinch of sugar, and mix. Give to baby, and burp well. This helps upset tummies better than the Mylicon drops. -- Jennifer

DIAPER RASH SALVE:
2 oz. Olive Oil (or Apricot Kernel Oil)
1 tsp. Beeswax

I often heat the oil together with a handful of dried calendula in a low oven for a few hours, and then strain the oil before using in this recipe. Calendula is wonderfully healing and soothing to irritated skin. Different types of oil can be used, if you prefer.

Melt beeswax and oil together over medium heat on stove or in microwave. When beeswax is completely melted, you can stir in a few drops of an essential oil that is beneficial to young children, such as lavender, tea tree or chamomile (I often combine all three). Pour into a container while still liquid, and allow to set. Store covered at room temperature for up to a year (I always use mine up long before a year has gone by!). -- Susan W.

Small packages of ketchup, mustard etc...can be placed in the freezer to be used as ice packs for small cuts, scrapes or abrasions. -- Deborah
