Toys and Books

Toys, Books, etc.
Don't assume that your baby or toddler needs a lot of toys to keep himself occupied. Children possess a natural curiosity and are usually content just to explore their surroundings or tag along with mom and dad.

Buy toys and books at rummage sales. Kids don't seem to mind that the items aren't brand-new.

Save plastic lids off containers such as detergent, instant coffee, etc. (ones large enough not to be a choking hazard). They can be used as a variety of toys; stacking/nesting, teach colours, counting etc. -- Evelyn

Our local Salvation Army has a book sale - buy a bag of books for $1. It's a great deal, and there are always great titles for baby.

When buying toys at thrift stores and rummage sales, don't forget to clean them. If possible, run hard plastic toys through the dishwasher or spot-clean them with bleach and water.
