Forgive my ignorance but I'm new to scrapbooking, in fact I haven't even started my first one yet, but I did buy some stuff if that qualifies! I keep hearing about the Cricut and I saw it at the craft store half off for 100 something, but since I didn't know what it did or if that was a good price or even what I'm doing, I didn't buy it. Personal cutting what does that mean? What are all those cartridges that were like $50 each! Do you have to buy the system, then the cartridges for it to work? Seems cheaper to me that I just buy what cut outs I like since I don't get to sb that often. I do want to start though, just haven't had time. Anyway, for all you wise scrappers out there please fill this newbie in!

I have the cricut machine. I actually do enjoy using it. It's like a computerized die cutting machine. You can select your sizes on the machine and the individual cartridges allow you to make different lettering fonts. I only have 2 cartridges, but i'm still learning to scrapbook. I purchased mine at Michael's i think it was either $119 or $129. But I've seen them on QVC for 2 cartirdges and the machine for around 179.

For me it's just easier to use. I found with some of the packages I purchased that you run out of specific letters, this allows you to type out exactly what you want.

Hope that helps a bit!!!

Its friggin awesome is what it is. lol When it came out and everyone on the board was talking about it... I avoided all conversations.. cause I knew if I got into it.. Id want one! And they are expensive (in my book!) My friend just bought one.. and let me babysit it for a few days.. and now Im saving pennies to get one. I could live with one cartridge really. She had 4 and I only used one (Tear Drop) You can check out my blog there are a lot of my recent pages that have die cut letters from the cricut on them. Love it.

Okay it does sound friggin awesome, but does it just do lettering? Does it do shapes and stuff too? I am always running out of letters when I am trying to spell something. Does it also do the symbols, like apostrophes and quotation marks?

I love my cricut! DH bought me one for Christmas last year. It is freakin awesome. It does everything. I have four cartridges. Two that do letter, numbers, and basic shapes. One is animal kingdom which does (I think) over 50 different animals and lots of things w/them. And I have tags, bags, boxes, & more; it does everything from gift tags to those little boxes like Stampin' Up sells, to mini popcorn boxes to crayon boxes. Oh, btw, the cartidges at WalMart run around $50.

Anyone know if their is a loan or rentail system for the cartridges out there? I told my dh I wanted one for my birthday next month but the cost of the cartridges seems a little high.

I have a Cricut question -

I am also thinking about asking for this for Christmas...what is the difference between them? Some are $180, some are $379 - what is the difference?

And this truly is the best on the market? I haven't been to a crop in a couple of years, and remember being all hyped up about the Sissex cutter. I have seen the Cricut, the sissex and the xyron. I really need to go to a crop and check one out. I wonder if they have demonstrations at my Joann's..........hmmm.....I'll have to check that out........

The $379 is the new Cricut Expressions machine. It does bigger stuff; the way I understood it, they were advertising it more towards teachers and the like for classroom diecuts and whatnot.
