Unusual request but i would like to make a nice ice tea from tea bags or loose tea. Can't seem to find one that isn't too strong or real tea tasting. Family loves Nestea Ice Tea but it is expensive

Help

My MIL makes good iced tea. When I make it, I add less sugar, as we prefer it that way, but you could add more or less depending on yoru tastes (I know those Southerners like a whole lot of sugar in theirs LOL). She takes a medium saucepan and adds about 3-4 inches of water to it. Add 5 or 6 teabags (she uses Red Rose tea, but that's just her husband's preference; any will do) and put on stove over medium heat. Heat through until steaming, letting the tea infuse the water, but don't let boil with the teabags in the water (it'll taste bitter). Take out tea bags. Stir in 2/3 cup (I use 1/2) sugar until dissolved. Add ice to an empty (big gallon size) pitcher, pour tea into pitcher and add cold water until full, stirring together. You may have to try it to see how much sugar you like. It's good though You can also use decaf tea and decrease the sugar for a healthier tea. (We make it that way often)

My grandma used to make sun tea back in the day. She'd put tea bags in a closed top pitcher of water outisde on the back stoop and let it sit in the sun all day.. Boy that was some gooood stuff!

You might try using Lipton green tea bags. The taste is very mild (even the color is much lighter than normal tea) and it is natually decaffinated. Another thing I do for a special treat is make normal iced tea and then add a can of frozen minute maid lemonade along with the amount of water you are supposed to use to make a batch of lemonade. Just let it thaw on the counter for 10 minutes or so and then mix it all up together. It is SO good.

I don't know if this is what kind of recipe you're looking for but it's good. I'd make it to serve with a nice meal.

Berry Mint Iced Tea

2 c boiling water
2 family sized tea bags
1/4 c firmly packed fresh mint leaves
10 oz frozen whole strawberries
3 tbsp sugar
4 c lemon-lime soft drink, chilled

In a small saucepan, boil 2 cups of water. Remove from heat. Place 2 family sized tea bags and 1/4 cup fresh mint in water. Cover and steep for 5 minutes. Remove teabags from water, squeezing gently. Pour tea mixture through a wire mesh strainer into a blender. Add strawberries and sugar. Blend mixture until the strawberries are pureed, scraping down the sides periodically. Pour tea through a wire mesh strainer into a serving pitcher. Stir in soft drink just before serving. Server over ice. Makes 6 1/2 cups.

I take a regular ice tea and add frozen raspberries to it. Raspberries act as ice cubes and give great flavor.

I like to use Luzianne for iced tea. Bring a small saucepan of water to a boil. Turn the water off and add in tea bags and sugar (1/2 - 3/4 cup). Stir until sugar is dissolved. Let the tea steep (sit) for 5-10 minutes and then add to your pitcher minus the tea bags. Fill the pitcher with cold water and serve over ice. In the summer when I have mint, I often add it in when I add the tea and then it has a nice mint flavor. (Take it out when you take the tea bags out.) The strength of you tea will depend on how many tea bags you use and how long you let the tea steep.

Thanks for the tea tips. I am so happy to have this answered. My daughter made hers quite strong and I now see where she went wrong.

I bought Nestea frozen at the grocery store yesterday for $.69 each which is about 1/2 price. Everyone here was excited to see them. Funny how we want ice tea when its-24F out!

I used to make sun tea until I learned that it isn't considered safe anymore. The safer alternative, that I find incredibly easy and tasty is making it in the refrigerator.

I use Lipton Tea Bags, store brand tea bags, fruit flavored tea bags, etc. Whatever combination we like. You need a pitcher with a lid. Just fill with water, add 6 to 8 tea bags, leave the string and tags hanging out of the pitcher, and put the lid on it. Steep it in the fridge. I usually assemble mine at night and remove the tea bags the next day. After removing the tea bags, sweeten as desired.
