Well someone posted a link to PETA info in the freebies section. After reading the info, since I can't buy into the vegan thing I'm gonna go organic so the animals are treated properly. Where I don't like that things die so I can eat, I accept it and am grateful. I have vowed to not use too many animal products but was raised rurally and in my heart it's a food source. I didn't realize the treatment from corporate conglomerates that these animals recieved. Knowing that now I won't support them, I have access to some nice organic meats and since dh doens't eat meat the extra cost won't kill us.

I know an animal still dies but I was starting to get weirded out by killing a head of lettuce so I had to draw a line somewhere before I started up a new neurosis.

Welcome to the organic club. I go that route for the reasons you mentioned and a few others too.

if you have any queries Id be happy to share my little knowledge

Seriously though its the best way to go for family health too if you can afford it.

I dont like what is done to animals in the food chain anyhow and I know someone will come back and tell me the Lord gave us the animals but not absolutely not to be treated this way.

I think I could go vegan totally except milk is where it gets me. Ice Cream.

I have recently gone organic. There is a dairy that delivers almost everything, so I signed up last night. It will be a little expensive, but worth it, especially since they deliver it.

I have struggled with this exact same issue for as long as I can remember. I adore animals and the thoughts of them being tortured and killed just breaks my heart. I don't think animals were put here for our personal use. I buy very little meat and I am very lucky that my family will go along with it, even though I used to get the rolley eyes from my dh for my reasoning for it. So I let him read for him self how much better organic foods were and he was able to go along on those terms. My goal is to learn to eat totally vegetarian. I do this now about 4 times per week. My dh has commented on how much better he feels when we don't eat meat for awhile.

Another line of reasoning for going organic and not letting the cost hold you back is, you and your family will be healthier without all those chemicals, growth hormones, and antibiotics in your bodies. You will pay less for your health care costs in the future.

I find that eating organic meats especially I eat less. It's probably b/c of the cost and dh isn't eating meat anymore that I just don't buy alot of meat. There are times I crave it though and I have read that my blood type requires more iron than others. The cut back has been nice otherwise, I figure that this culture overeats anyway and I'm not lacking in the fat reserves.
