Or at least I think he is.

He has been sitting one the toilet ofor over a half an hour. He says he feels like he has to go. Anything I look up has not said anything about the feeling of having to go but can't.

It has said the child might need to go but holds it back beacuse he thinks its going to hurt.
He needs to eat fiber(which he doesn't get much of)
Says it hurts when having a bowel movement(he hasn't told me it has hurt)

I'm sure there is no quick fix for this but he doesn't want to get off the toilet because he feels the need to go.

Anyone know of something to give him now that might help????

How old is he? Could he be a little dehydrated? Get him to drink lots of water if he is. If not, maybe a laxative might work.

My 2 almost 3 yo doesn't like to poop so she holds it in. Everytime she got the urge she would squeeze her butt together so nothing would come out. She would go as long as 4-5 days without pooping. Last week we went to the ped and she was prescribed a prescription strength laxative and it's been working. She doesn't have diarhhea but she also cannot hold it in.

Good luck!

My 8 yr old DS has always had problems with this. He used to spend up to 3 hours sitting on the potty trying to poop. (he wanted to stay, we did not make him). We have tried prescriptions and OTC stuff - all worked some at different times. Best thing to do is keep a regular diet of high fiber foods. Lots of fruits and veggies. We even did prune juice popsicles!!

Unfortunately in the midst of trying to get it out there's not much that will help. Do have him keep drinking - prune/apple juice may help more than water. As a last resort you can use a suppository (sp) enema that you can buy OTC at the store. Definetely NOT fun but can be useful once in a while.

Give lots of encouragement and love. He will need your support. Think about dietary changes starting tomorrow.

apricots work very well in my house as well as prunes, raisins, and blueberries. We also tend to buy high fiber cereals like raisin bran.

my 3yo hates to go poop she holds it for days and then she screams at the top of her lungs cause it hurts so bad and she actually bleeds everytime. Her ped said to make her sit on the pot every day until she goes and to drink an apple cran prune grape drink like 16oz of it and up her fiber He said that she gets what is called a plug which is where she has held it for so long that her body has absorbed all the moisture and its really hard to get out so she needs lots of fluids and yes she will sit on the pot forever trying to go but she fights it everytime it starts to come out so what we do is sit with her i strip her naked cause she gets really hot and sweaty and we hold hands or hug until she can finally get the first part out and then she is ok to sit there and wait for the rest good luck i know it is very trying on you we also use suppositories and baby laxative enemas
