When I joined curves previously I liked it at first but they kept changing the hrs. at the one here, there was no child care and my dh works shift work and I had my dd at home with me and my other in school. So the hrs. I could go I couldn't because they didn't want children in there. I wasn't able to find childcare for 1 hr when they were open. Also my friends that worked complained because they were closed during the lunch hr. when they were at lunch. Our curves was probably hr. wise messed up because we live in a small town and it's just that way. I enjoyed it and broke a sweat for sure but I don't know that I lost any weight or felt better from working out. There were other people that had lost weight so it depends on more things than just going in. Diet, sleep, stretching and excersize all play a role.

EDIT: You know I should probably add that Your mind set plays a big role. That is more of what I was trying to say with the diet, sleep etc. My mind just wasn't focused on it at the time. I THOUGHT I wanted to get in shape etc. but my heart and mind were just not "there" yet. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it or whatever you decide to do.

Im in it and find it good for exercising so I would recommend it from that point of view. However there is an optional diet program that works but I have huge concerns with the nutrtition aspect of it for me.

ours is open 6 days a week but closes early on Saturday which really doesnt suit people who work on Saturday (ie. me) and its not open like lots of gyms here on Sundays.
thats my only real grouse with it.

I tried it once and knew I would hate it so I never joined. Their hours were funky and not open on the weekends. I also knew hydraulics would not really do anything for me.

Fortunately, we got a Contours this year and I tried that and loved it! It is similar to Curves that it is a circuit training system, but they actually have weights. You can do the circuit training or you can do the weights or whatever you want. They also have a trainer on staff at all times (I have to say the weekday ones are better than the night and weekends though) so that helps, too.

But, try it and see if Curves works for you. Anything to get you moving helps.

I did it for almost a year & lost 26". It worked great for me, but I know that it's not for everyone. Most Curves locations will let you try it out for a week before you commit. Give them a call & see if they offer a free trial period.

I've been going to the YMCA to workout & have been liking it so far too. Just another option that's out there for you.

Thank you so much for your help. I just feel I need to do something. I hate looking at myself in the mirror and see how much I've let myself go

lack of childcare, bizarre hours and being forced to work out to mellow Christian "lite" rock were the reasons I didn't renew my membership.
Sorry to sound "unChristian" but when I'm sweating, I need some hard rock.

The owner also contributes lots of $ to vigilante anti-abortion groups, which I feel is the wrong way to solve abortion issues, but that's JMO.

I am a member of curves, and it worked well for me when I had time to go. But because of the weird hours and no childcare, I don't get to go that often. But if you have someone who can watch your kids while they're open, you should give it a try.

My MIL used to belong but after a while, she found it just wasn't challenging anymore for her. I know a few folks that belong and love it though.

I really think that if you want to lose weight, one of the best ways to start is walking. It's free, you can do it almost anywhere, any time, take your kids, don't take your kids etc

Good luck!
