What classic books have you read? What ones did you enjoy?

I haven't read too many classics. Of the ones I have read, I really like Lord of the Flies. Most people to whom I say that, find it odd.

Addimom, I loved Lord of the Flies too. (But then again, a lot of people think I'm odd, and not just because of my taste in books).

I also loved Dracula, Moby Dick, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, To Kill a Mockingbird, Slaughterhouse 5, The Grapes of Wrath, All Quiet on the Western Front, and The Awakening.

I hated The Red Badge of Courage.

Some of Dickens books are pretty good (if you don't mind feeling depressed for a week or two after)

I actually liked reading the Canterbury Tales years and years ago. I even bought a kid's version for my kids. When I read it to them, it made me wonder why I liked the original because it just wasn't as good as I remembered it. Grapes of Wrath was pretty good. Red Badge of Courage I didn't care for either, but I don't like stories about war.

I LOVE the original Alice In Wonderland.

I think I would like Shakespeare's stuff if I could just understand what they were saying.

Didn't realize how hard it is to think "what is considered a classic" until posed this question....Out of the books mentioned in the thread so far, I read & enjoyed Lord of the Flies, Dracula, Huck Finn, To Kill a Mockingbird....I seem to recall reading The Red Badge of Courage but don't remember anything about it. Also loved Alice in Wonderland, Canterbury Tales, Tristan and Isolde, and my favorites in school were most any Shakespeare - except for the histories. I just couldn't get into the Histories. Really liked the Autobiography of Malcomb X - not sure if that is a classic though.

I have read so many classics I wouldn't know where to begin! Two that I don't think many people have read or would consider classics are Sea Wolf by Jack London and The Scarlet Pimpernal by Baroness Emmuska Orczy. I really liked those when I read them last year. I also really love books like Brave New World and Fahrenheit 451.

I haven't read too many classics (though I would like to change that). Of the ones I have read and enjoyed are Dracula, To Kill a Mockingbird, and I really enjoy older poetry (Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, etc.)
