Didn't get a thing done all weekend as I could not put this book down: The Nineteenth Wife. It's 2 novels in one - it follows the journey of the early mormon church through the life of Ann Eliza Young - Brigham Young's 19th wife who divorced him & went on a speaking tour across America to put an end to plural marriage. At the same time, it crosses w/ a present-day murder mystery of a guy in one of those remote morman towns that still practices polygamy, who's 19th wife has been arrested for murdering him. Her son comes back to try to get her out of jail - he is a "lost boy" who was kicked out of the group at 14 so the older men could get the young girls. Just a great read.

Next up I'll be starting the followup book to Ken Follet's "Pillars of the Earth". I think it's called "World Without End" or something like that.

Mari, that "Nineteenth Wife" book sounds good!! You might want to try "Escape" by Carolyn Jessop. She ran away from a polygamous sect with her 8 children. It was an interesting read.

I read a couple of "fluffy" romantic fiction books this weekend (by Linda Howard). I am hoping to head to the library and get into something with more depth.

Textbooks!

Actually I am in an American Lit class so this week I am currently reading the poets W.C. Williams, Ezra Pound, Langston Hughes, and T.S. Elliot. It's a lot to take at the moment!

We are going to read "A Streetcar Named Desire" in a couple of weeks, too.

I just finished a cheesy romance novel, mostly skipped thru it. I'm undecided on what to read next.

Last month I read Pretty in Plaid by Jennifer Lancaster. So funny! It's true stories from her life based on what she wore. Children of the 80's and 90's will love it. Language alert though!

So I have her other three books on tap for this month and also Al Capone shines my shoes (the first book is Al Capone does my shirts) which is a YA book about kids living on Alkatraz in the 1930's. wonderfully written!
