Ever have a friend who is also an avid reader and is always giving you book recommendations? How do you handle it when you just cannot get into the book she was just raving about that you " had to read!". Everytime she sees you she asks , "well, well, how did you like it?!!"......UGH, but you don't like it and don't want to hurt their feelings because you can see it's a book they loved and wanted to share with you. You also don't want to lie and say you read it, because then you're screwed when she wants to discuss it with you and then you start getting the questions like " Hey,how did you like that part when ____."
Well, i'm in that situation now. My girlfriend sent me home with a book she just raved about. Well, it's set in the regency era, where everyone is a Lady or a Lord, etc. and that is just not my bag, ya know? Oh it's also a steamy one! My dear sweet mild mannered, sunday school teaching ,farmer's wife, friend since high school, apparently has a "freaky side" because she showed me her secret stash of naughty novels
Anyone familiar with the Aphrodisia line of books? She's got a few Ellora's Cave books too,,,,pretty steamy stuff, the first chapter alone was fogging up my house windows Anyway, i can handle the naughty parts,,,,,,,it's just the time era that i cannot get into. Half tempted to skip over most of it, but i know she's gonna grill me on the whole book.
Not sure what to do

I would just tell her what you told us. Most avid readers know that some books aren't for everyone, so I'm sure she would understand.

Tell her that while you enjoyed the steamy parts of the first chapter... You just couldn't get into the rest of the story line. I'm sure she would understand! If you feel like she is pushing you to read it, it is probably becuase she just wants someone to talk to about it. Maybe to solve that, she can just tell you about the book. If you have no interest in reading it...she can't spoil the ending for you!
I do that to DH alot! I don't have alot of friends that read for recreation. So sometimes I push DH to read something that isn't his cup of tea. I realized reading your post, that I do this becuase I want to talk to someone about it...not becuase I actually think he will enjoy the book!

I'm always honest - as nicely as possible. I say... I tried to read it but just couldn't get into it - that kind of story just isn't my thing - sorry
