I must have been living under a rock because I have just seen the new book about to come out that has been sanctioned by the Margaret Mitchell estate! "Rhett Butler's People" sounds pretty interesting. Anybody going to read it???

Rhett Butler's People by Donald McCaig : Booksamillion.com (0312262515, Hardcover)

I think it may be on my Christmas list!

I'm a fan! As good as the movie really was, I truly enjoyed the books, and this one sounds like one I'd like to try!!

I feel we all have a little Scarlett in us! And maybe a touch of interesting Vivien Leigh.

Not sure. I LOVED Gone with the Wind. I read it in high school and couldn't go to sleep at night because I'd just keep thinking about it. I love the movie too, although much has been cut out. The only reason I'm hesitant is because they made a "sequel" type book to GWTW, and I was very disappointed in it. So I don't want to be disappointed again. Loved Rhett Butler...slick hair & all!!

Yes, that is my hesitation, too. It was "Scarlett" and I think I remember controversy round it concerning the Margaret Mitchell estate. I don't think they liked it or approved of it so I may try this one.

If only Margaret Mitchell had not stepped out onto Peachtree Street in front of that bus we would probably have a really great sequel!

Yep! I am a GWTW junkie! I have even been to the Margaret Mitchell House in downtown Atlanta. It isn't too far - maybe a couple of blocks - from the hospital I was born in. I believe they have torn it down now. Darn progress. It was pretty rundown when I saw it in the early 90s.

ETA: I did go back and double check and it was a taxi, not a bus, but she got hit and died 5 days later. She died in 1949 at the age of 49. Very sad.
