When I saw this on Yahoo News I was suprised. But it dosent change the series for me I still Love them just as much as before. I was mainly suprised because it had never crossed my mind before. Now I look back and can see the hints. I think it is neat that she made the book so in depth even to that point.

Calimari -- I do think that knowing this information is useful to understanding the HP series. The rest of Rowling's quote about Dumbledore was to say that her book had two themes -- "question authority" (appropriate for me in this time of wars and a president who casually mentions WWIII possibilities) and that we should always "promote tolerance." How interesting to have us all fall in love with the Dumbledore character and then later tell us he is gay. I think it has great significance -- IMO!

I have heard that Rowling has a forum of some type online. Does anyone know the link? I would love to hear more from her directly!

Those 2 themes are some of the things I like about this series - still, this "revelation" doesn't change anything about the series for me. Actually, my DH & I always thought Snape was gay!

I have to agree. I don't care at all and wish she had left it at that. Oh well, though, I guess.

EXACTLY! I just didn't see what it brought to the book at all. And I still love the series, too. I just didn't see the need to even address the issue. Sometimes I think she is TOO invested in this series. But, then again, I am not an author who has worked on it for so long.

ME TOO! When I heard the news that a character was gay, Snape was my first guess!

I understand your point that the additional info on Dumbledore doesn't change anything for you . . . .

What's interesting to me is that she has this whole "back story" on the characters going on. I wonder if it's just in her head or does she write out traits and characters and sexuality for each of her characters and then incorporates only some of it in her books? I was really into it when I read them (as I said, I read them one right after the other) so if she has been writing this series for 17 years, I can see why these characters seem real to her. I had them in my head for weeks after reading the books and while reading them.

She has written backstories on many of her characters. Some made the cut into the books like Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood's Dad, and others were not, like Dean Thomas. Her website J.K.Rowling Official Site - Harry Potter and more has alot of info on those things. It seems I read on her site once that all the main characters and many of the minor ones had bios like descriptions, family trees, wand cores etc... That would make sense in an epic of this size. She gets beaten up enough by fandoms for tiny mistakes.

I figured they are releasing little tidbits now to get publicity for the DVD release.

So, in her response to being asked if Dumbledore finds true love...she says he's gay. Not, well he's dead, so no he isn't going to find true love now.
