Am I the only HP fan who never really thought about this or cared about this fact? I just liked Dumbledore because he was a good man who loved Harry and the kids at Hogwarts. Why would she come out and say he was gay? Who cares? It doesn't change the story and if she isn't writing anymore HP books then especially who cares? Unless, of course, it is to make more money. . .

You know what? I did wonder about Dumbledore! I figured he was either gay or had something going on with Professor McGonagall. I really liked McGonagall.

I never really thought about it, nor cared. Still don't.

Melsb, I had wondered about him, too! I *love* the HP series It doesn't make much difference in the story line (except maybe, as JKR said, explaining why it took so long for Dumbledore to see G.G.'s true colors) but I really enjoy hearing the little snippits of information she gives about the characters that weren't in the book.

I spent the month of August reading all 7 of the Harry Potter books and I loved them! I loved being able to go from finishing one right to reading the next one. I originally started reading them with my 8 yo so we could talk about them, but then I ended up liking them as much as she did. I wish that she was old enough to be into them when the whole Harry Potter mania was going strong. I would have totally taken her to a midnight party to get the book. I feel like I got on the HP bandwagon too late!

I love HP also, and love to hear the little tidbits of info. I always thought Dumbledore and McGonagall had something going. The fanfics are going to go crazy with this info.

I read this last night and just sort of thought it was bizarre she even mentioned that. I guess I just never thought of Dumbledore as sexual in any fashion and I was content with that. I don't need to know about his sexuality either way as I don't see how it contributes whatsoever to the story.

I guess it just shows are deep she was in this Harry Potter world herself. She worked on them 17 years, I think that is what it said, and I suspect in her mind Harry Potter and the rest of the gang were just as real as those closest to her.

This is a children's book series. Why would she do this...because she can? I think it's inappropriate to address this part of any character's life. Do you see her stating Harry's heterosexual? I just think this is wrong. These characters are a figment of her imagination and can be of any orientation she wants them to be, but I think private parts of lives should remain private. It actually creeps me out that she states this, when you view certain scenes in retrospect. It just puts certain scenes in a different light. Just stuff I would rather not have in my mind during viewing...

"She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love."

"Dumbledore is gay," the author responded to gasps and applause."

Why not just say yes, but not in the way you expect or something like that? If it was an adult series, I wouldn't think this way, but this is not a fact important to her stories.

Keep in mind the author is british & Americans are pretty much the most straightlaced & religious country in her audience. Homosexuality isn't nearly as big a deal in Europe as it is here. Still, it seems pointless to mention it, as it doesn't affect the story at all.
