Ladies at work gave me a list of books I should read.
The Lovely Bones

Angela's Ashes

and The Poisonwood Bible

Has anyone read any of these? If so which one was your favorite?

I haven't read Lovely Bones...but there was a thread a while back where everyone was raving about it.

The other two I have never heard of.

I've read all three...

I really liked "The Lovely Bones" and I read her other book "Lucky", which is nonfiction about the author's rape and recovery. I recently read her newest book "The Almost Moon" and I found it really disturbing. I definately liked Lovely Bones the best.

I enjoyed "Angela's Ashes", and I liked Frank McCourt's other books as well.

I didn't enjoy the "The Poisonwood Bible" at all! I have tried reading other books by the Barbara Kingsolver, she's very popular, but they just don't do it for me.

I've read the first two. The Lovely Bones was a very interesting book. (But I think it's fiction oregano). It is about a child rape and murder so can be somewhat disturbing, but it still drew me in. It was a mega best seller and most people loved it.

I read "Angela's Ashes" years ago. Now it IS non-fiction. It is based on the author's life of growing up in Ireland during a period of extreme poverty in that country. It's heart breaking reading what he went through a a child. It also was a mega best seller when it came out and probably won some awards, but it's been too long for me to remember. There is a sequel also that tells of the author's life after he came to the US. I read them both and enjoyed them. (ETA: I just remembered the sequel is called "Tis")

I've not read the third, but know it was a very popular book. HTH

Never read the first two....but my sister read the third for a lit class and LOVED IT. It's actually one of the only books she's ever read from front to back. I've read it too, and I too enjoyed it. I actually just bought it on amazon and it came in the other day....on top of my 'to be read' pile.

Read & enjoyed The Lovely Bones. Somewhat disturbing due to the nature of the topic, but very well written.

Haven't read Angela's Ashes yet, but I did read the sequel, "Tis", and enjoyed that. Assuming the first book is as well-written as Tis, I'm sure I'll like that too.

Absolutely loved the majority of The Poisonwood Bible. Couldn't put it down. Towards the end it sort of slowed down for me, but for the most part liked it & have recommended it.

I've read Angela's Ashes and agree that it's heartbreaking to learn of such an impoverished childhood firsthand. But, it makes you grateful for what you have, and when you see how well the author came out as an adult, it's inspiring. I like his dry sense of humor.

Yes...the book "The Lovely Bones" is fiction. The second book by the same author, "Lucky", is nonfiction, which is about the author's own rape and recovery. Sorry, I must not have been clear about that in my first post.

Oops...in rereading it just now I think you were clear, and I was just having a "can't read" moment. Sorry.
