Try books from James Patterson in the Murder Club series (I think that's what it's called anyway), Tess Gerritson, and Alex Kava.

I'm not a fan of Patterson, Dh likes his books though. If you like the Kay Scarpetta series you'll probably like the series by Kathy Reichs. I think that show "Bones" is VERY loosely based on her books. IMO, the show is terrible...LOL. The books aren't though! Check one out at your local library.

Her first book is "Deja Dead"

Deja Dead

What about the letter series by Sue Grafton? "A is for Alibi" is her first book...

Sue Grafton, author of the Kinsey Millhone Mysteries

I also like "lighter" murder mysteries. If there is such a thing! LOL! I usually find authors by search by subject for a certain area of the country I like, certain professions etc I usually like female main characters...

The Diane Mott Davidson series is a cooking series - easy reads, fun books. The first book in the series is called "Catering to Nobody".

Diane Mott Davidson

The Stephanie Plum Series of books by Janet Evanovich, is just hilarous. Laugh out loud funny. The first book in the series is "One for the Money".

Oregano, Lots of people on my book swap sites read the Diane Mott Davidson books but I've never tried them. So you like them?? Are those the ones that have recipes in the story??? It seems like we have similar tastes in books (big surprise!! ) so I might have to try them. I'm currently collecting the Janet Evanonvich "number" books but want to collect them all before I start. I'm still trying to find 5, 8, 10 & of course 13...then I'll start!!!

I like the British cozy murder mystery books, such as anything by M.C. Beaton, but especially her Hamish MacBeth series. Her Agatha Raisin books are good too - very light (as are the Hamish MacBeth ones).

I do like them...I also read another cooking series (also with recipes) by Joanna Fluke. The first book in that series is "Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder".

Another series I like, is about a gal that is a writer for a dog magazine and she lives in Boston. The author is Susan Conant and the first book in the series is "A New Leash on Death". Another author who writes about dogs is Laurien Berenson. The first book in her series is "A Pedigree to Die For".

Oooh, I like this thread! I normally read thrillers and mysteries. I'll have to check out many of the authors that have been mentioned.

I read the 'A is for Alibi' book by Sue Grafton and really liked it. I need to find the B book, but I haven't had any luck yet. I like to go in order in a series -- I'll probably get confused if I try to read another letter.

I want to try the Women's Murder Club series by James Patterson, but I couldn't find '1st To Die' at my library. Again, I'm trying to go in order.

For the life of me I just can't get into the Patricia Cornwell Kay Scarpetta series. I read one book (can't remember the title) and it left me feeling unfufilled. The I tried to read another one (again, can't remember the title) and I just could not get into the book. I want to like this series, but I can't.

I had a Janet Evanovich book in my hand at the library, but I put it back. I'll have to take another look at her.
