I'm about 100 pages into it. It's pretty good - kind of strange. It's about a Greek family whose brother marries his sister. A few generations later (and more inbreeding) a hermaphrodite is born. I'm liking it - I've just never read anything like it before.

Yes...I read it last year. I enjoyed it, although I think in some areas it's slow. The same author also wrote "The Virigin Suicides".

I read it for my church book club. The beginning of the book focuses alot on Greek history and as the book moves forward, the relationships are stressed more. Detroit takes the place of Greece eventually. Let me know when you're finished and I'll give you my opinions.

Absolutely loved the book. Of course, I'm in Detroit so the place references were familiar to me. My best friend loved the first half and hated the 2nd half. My uncle says it's one of the most well-written books he's ever read. He's 82 and reads about about 3 books a week & always has. Hope you like it!

I hate to hijack this post but......I had to chuckle just a little. My brother was a hermaphrodite and i don't think it had anything to do with inbreeding. I'm pretty sure there wasn't any inbreeding in my family. I once thought my cousin Jimmy was cute but that's as far as anything ever went. hahaha.

Seriously when i read about the inbreeding i just had to LOL.

Jodie --

My DH's great-uncle was too! They fixed some things, and he went on to father 4 children. There was no inbreeding in this situation either!

With our perspectives, it will be an interesting read!
