I had several I read that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED!!! If I HAD to pick a favorite, it would probably be A Thousand Splendid Suns, but I also loved Water for Elephants, both the Jodi Picoult books I read--Plain Truth and Keeping Faith, I laughed and cryed all through Marley & Me, LOVED Whistling in the Dark....okay...I know I'm cheating, but it's almost like having to pick a favorite child. I love them all differently.

I saw Whistling in the Dark at Barnes and Noble, and it's on my list to check out from the library. That one did look good. Every one you listed is on my list to read this year .

If you mean books read in '07, rather than published in, for me, it was Lovely Bones and Memory Keeper's Daughter. The most haunting was Long Way Gone (I think that's the title) about a boy who was a soldier in Africa - true story, very scary at how parts of the world are.

"Escape" by Carolyn Jessop, about a mother of 8 who escaped an abusive polygamist marriage. She lived in the same compound that Warren Jeffs controlled.
"Marly & Me",,, thanks Aliadam for that suggestion, have the kleenex handy! lol
"Cold Rock River" by J.L. Miles
I'm sure there are more, i just can't think of them all tonight.

I'm like you, I was having a hard time remembering which I read in '06 vs. '07. I read the Lovely Bones and Memory Keeper's Daughter (but I think they were in "06) and I loved both those too. I haven't read Long Way Gone, but know it's a huge bestseller and highly recommended. I'll have to put that on my list and see if I can scrounge up a copy.
But the thing about the boy in Africa reminded me of another favorite this year....The Camel Bookmobile. It's the story of an American woman who goes over to help with a bookmobile (via camel obviously) that goes to remote African villages. It was REALLY, REALLY good also. Reading these books about Africa, Afghanistan, etc just makes me even happier I live here as it sounds so hard to live in places like that. The children's stories were hearbreaking. But a great read, so put it on your "Aliadam Recommended List" also.

I am having a hard time remembering what books I read this year. The 7th Harry Potter book is up there. My favorite may have been the last one I read which is an old book and is called Two From Galillee. Makes me want to find the sequal 3 from Galilee. I also read the Bronze Bow and loved it. Hmm.... the only new book I read this year may have been the Harry Potter book. I am usually reading old books. Unless it is something from bible study.

Yes, I loved this book. It was the one I recommended when the book club was looking for a book set in the 50's. It the story of a summer in the lives of a family during that time, told from the child's perspective. Very different, with a bit of a mystery, some heart string tugging, and very funny parts too. Just a "different" sort of book which is my favorite kind. Let me know if you read it and what you think!!!

Of the books that I read last year, no surprise here...I loved the Phillipa Gregory Books. The Other Boleyn Girl, Virgin's Lover, The Constant Princess, and A Queen's Fool. I was intrigued to say the least, and ended up doing lots of reseach online about that time period!!
However, A Thousand Splendid Suns, I just finished about a week ago and that was an amazing story!!
I am onto The Boleyn Inheiritance next... And then Water for Elephants...
