I just finished reading the book "Come Back" by Claire (mom) and Mia (daughter) Fontaine. I read it for a book ring I'm in and probably wouldn't have otherwise read it, but found it very interesting. It's the true acct of a teenage girl who lives a fairly lucky life, but then gets sucked into a life of drugs and street people and every horrible thing you can imagine. It starts when she's only 14 and the parents try everything from kidnapping her back to extreme treatment programs. The first half of the book especially is harrowing where they describe from the daughter's perspective what she's going through and thinking, and from the mother's view her desperation at trying to "fix" her dd. The daughter was sexually abused by her father at a young age, and they seem to feel much of the psychological dysfunction is from that.

The second half of the book was interesting as it told of the treatment program the girl went through, and the accompanying seminars the mom & stepfather went through. My only complaint about the book is that I feel this part got a bit repetitive and they could have condensed it some.

So I thought I'd let people know about it in case you wanted to check it out. I think people with family members with addiction issues or those who have suffered sexual abuse might especially find it interesting...but others will also.

An interesting side note is that the Fontaines have nothing but good things to say about the residential treatment program Mia was in, but I read some things online where others highly criticize it as abusive. I may try to read more to find out both sides of the story.

Here's the link to the book on amazon if you want to read about it.

Sounds like a really interesting book. I will have to add it to my growing TBR pile.

I had a girlfriend from high school who was sexually molested by her own father for years. I can't even begin to describe how bad that messed her up. She wasn't into drugs but she became more of a sex addict. She wound up in and out of mental health facilities with breakdowns and was on all different kinds of medications. She ended up dying at age 35 from a blood clot to the lung after a simple surgery. I miss her, but i know she's in a better place, she had such inner turmoil all her life and horrible self esteem issues. She had counselors over the years but i don't think anyone or anything could ever erase the things her father did to her. He literally ruined her life.
