I would not recommend it. I've heard The Pilot's Wife is good. Have you read that one?

I haven't but I "think" I have it in my HUGE amount of books in boxes to read. I have so many that I recently bought one I already had, so I've been trying to catalog them. I've heard good things about it also though. Is that the one there was a movie made of or am I thinking of something else?!?!? I guess one of us will have to read it and review it here for everyone

I'm reading "A Good Enough Parent". It's a parenting book and I am just starting it. It has small print, so it is going to take forever since I'll read a fiction book at the same time. He really focuses on letting your child be who they are and how to parent without interfering in their development of self.
Amazon.com: Good Enough Parent : A Book on Child Rearing: Bruno Bettelheim: Books

I think I'm going to start "The Red Tent" too. It's been sitting on the shelf for awhile now and I keep not getting to it. It should balance out the difficult nonfiction book well.

I've looked over this one before but never read it. Let me know what you think!

Also, I love how everyone is putting the links in. I tend to forget names of books but I usually am able to identify covers! Thanks.

I read The Pilot's Wife a while back. I liked it. The movie is NOT good, though. It has been many years since I read it, though, so I don't think I could do a review. Maybe I'll re-read it some time.

Ahhh....ANOTHER book I've got stacked up. I've heard really good things about it too, so I'll be anxious to hear what you think after you've read it!!

I am currently reading "The Ultimate CHEAPSKATES Road Map to True Riches" by Jeff Yeager. I'm only on page 47 so I can't really give a review just yet, but so far I like it, this guy has a great sense of humor & good advice. AND I also think he'd be proud of the fact that I borrowed the book from a friend rather than buy it, lol!!

I also just finished reading all 3 of the "Tightwad Gazzette" books by Amy Dacyczyn, also borrowed from the same frugal friend.

I like to read lots of different genres.

Right now I am reading Dangerous Surrender by Kay Warren. It is Christian non-fiction. So far it is really good. It is about how she felt both convicted and empowered to jump in and get involved in the AIDS pandemic in Africa. She really focuses on what it looks and feels like to abandon your plans and follow God's.

I recently read A Single Shard which is the 2002 Newberry but was awesome to read as an adult. I absolutely loved it! Here is a cut-n-paste summary...

"Set in 12th century Korea, this is the story of Tree-ear who lives under a bridge with his disabled older friend Crane-man. Tree-ear becomes fascinated with the potter's craft and longs to create celadon ceramics. However pottery is a trade passed on from father to son and Tree-ear is an orphan. He works long and hard hoping to become an apprentice."

Oh, thanks for the Anita Shreve info. I almost got that book recently. I am planning on The Kite Runner next.

I would also recommend Anita Shreve's " Light on Snow". That was a good book!

When my children were younger we read TONS of Newbery books. You always knew it would be good if it won that award. We never read this one though. Maybe they were already too old by then...not sure. But a GREAT recommendation for those with kids!!
