I used to work at a college bookstore where we held a lot of signings, so I have met quite a few. My favorites, though, were David Wisniewski (children's author) and William Wegman (not really an author, but he does have published books of photographs so I am including his because he was SO NICE!). I also really enjoyed listening to David Baldacci, although I can't really say I met him because there was a huge crowd and our only conversation consisted of "Here's you water, Mr. Baldacci" and "Thank you". The most exciting signing we ever held was Ethan Hawke - he was also very nice considering it was an outdoor event on a 95 degree day. He must have signed books in that heat for 2 hours.
I have only met one author who was NOT very nice. I won't mention her name, but she spoke at our store several times and each time she was rude to the staff and actually got a little short with the people during the question and answer period. It actually turned me off her - I used to like her books but I have stopped reading them.
