Jessie feels that she has found a soul mate in Whit. Do you find this word inviting or repellent? When we speak of looking for a soul mate, what do we mean? Is there really such a thing?

I like the word soul mate, and I believe in it. There has to be a measure of compromise and definitely communication to keep it working though. I like to think of marriage as 2 parts to a whole. You go looking for your soul mate, or the other half that makes you better than you are by yourself.

I didn't believe it in Jesse's case though. I guess I thought her relationship was more about lust than finding a true soul mate. I don't believe in love at first sight, to me that's lust. I think she was going through empty nest syndrome and found a man that would listen to her.

I, too, believe in a soul mate and don't agree that Whit was her soul mate. I do think the two of them needed each other at the time to be able to get on with their lives.
