In your mind, was Jessie's father's death a sin? Jessie isn't sure if choosing to end one's life in order to spare oneself and one's family extreme suffering was horning in on God's territory and usurping “the terrifying power to say when,” or whether it was usurping God's deep heart by laying down one's life as a sacrifice. What do you think?

Well this could get into a heated discussion, but I believe people should have a say in their death in some cases so I don't consider it a sin. He did not want to die from Alzheimers, and I respect that. I watched a young mother die from ALS, and I will not die like that. So many people die agonizing and painful deaths from cancer...whereas if the family dog is suffering it is gently put to sleep. To watch someone you have loved for a lifetime die in such a manner is gutwrenching. A person needs to compare quality of life versus quantity of life when considering choices also.

This question is a really hard one for me. I can understand someone wanting to put themselves out of their misery, but I always have hope that something, a cure for anything, will come along and be able to save a person before they do something drastic, such as taking their own life.
