I have a few books that I consider "changed my thinking" books.

Motherless Daughters: The Legacy of Loss--It really helped me grieve in that I read about other women who felt the same as I did (and women who felt differently than I did) when I lost my mom.

A Thousand Splendid Suns--Even though it is fiction, just knowing that this kind of stuff was happening in our world today was so sad to me. I think about this book and women like the main characters probably 2 or 3 times a week.

Brave New World--When I read this in school was when I first realized my need to question things and not be a sheep.

and finally....The Road--This book has affected me so much in the way I live my life right now. Just in case....

Hands down The Girls Who Went Away by Ann Fessler. Some of you already know how much that book impacted me. It continues to impact my life. I even wrote Ms. Fessler a thank you e-mail.

Because of that book, I suddenly realized I needed to find my birthmother not for me, as I always wanted to, but for HER. I needed her to know I was ok and had a good life and no ill will towards her. So, because of that book, I now know my birthmother, the reasons I was put up for adoption, my heritage, my birthfather, and many many questions have been answered.

Other books have left an imprint (A Thousand Splendid Suns is a good example.) But, as far as a life changing impact - this is it by far. If finding your mother as a result of a book after years of indecision isn't an impact, I do not know what is.
