I found this in a CROCKPOT recipe book. I am thinking of making this for breakfast tomorrow. It looks and sounds really good. I tried to find it on the website so I could cut and paste and also so you could see the picture of it, but it wasnt on their website. I retyped with recipe from the cookbook exactly as it is written. If I make it, I will post my results.Makes 4-6 servings

4 cups boiling water
3 cups quick-cooking oatmeal
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 egg yolks
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups whipping cream
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
fresh berries (optional)

Cook time: 3 to 3 1/2 hours on low

Coast 4.5 quart crock pot with cooking spray. Combine water, oatmeal and salt in slow cooker. Cover and cook on high.
Combine egg yolks, granulated sugar and vanilla in small bowl. Heat cream to simmer do not boil. Remove from heat. Whisking rapidly, slowly pour 1/2 cup hot cream into yolks. Whisk warm eggo mixture into cream, stirring rapidly to blend well. Spoon mixture over oatmeal. Do not stir.
Line lid with two paper towels. Cover tightly; cook on low for 3 3 1/2 hours or until custard has set. Uncover and sprinkle brown sugar evenly over surface of custard. Line with two dry paper towels. Cover tightly; continue cooking on low for 10 to 15 minutes or until brown sugar has melted. Serve with fresh berries, if desired.

Ok, so I still have not made this. But I want too. I just cant bring myself to get up super early to get this in the CP. So I am thinking I will do it this weekend. I could get up at 6-ish and we could eat it around 9. That sounds way better than getting up at 3-ish. I will report back.

08/22/09-I have this in the CP right now. Very easy to put together. I wasnt able to get it into the CP until 7 but that's ok. Kids are still sleeping and like to watch cartoons for a while before they eat breakfast on the weekends. It will be a late breakfast for us, but that means we will just do a light lunch.

Update: It was really good. Everyone had a big serving of it. My brulee part didnt set up on top of the oatmeal like I thought it would. Everything was cooked all the way thru. It was very creamy, not too sweet. Kids all really liked the melted brown sugar on top. I would defiantely make it again. Very easy recipe. We all ate big servings of it and there is still some leftover. I am going to keep it and see how it does reheated. I would guess that I might have to add a little milk to it.
I looked over the ingredients and I didnt boil my water, I just used hot tap water. I wonder if that is why it didnt set up. But I think if it had than the kids may have been les eager to eat it. I would have had to explain the brulee part to them.
Reheated very well. I did have to add a little milk to it and a little brown sugar.
