I know that's an odd question. I know it may not belong here, but I need some help--and most people are here

I have never NOT breastfed from the start. After the girls were born they handed them to me and they were on the breast. If you dont at all--does it hurt so much when it dries up? Does not so much milk come in so its not so bad??

With my first DD i tried the breast--she was 5 weeks early and NO ONE could get her to latch. SO I pumped for a little while, but never had much milk. It dried up and wasn't that bad.

My second DD was 9 lbs, and she breastfed for about a week just fine. Then my breasts became infected overnight. I had chills, fever, and to top it off-I normally have double d's and my breasts became to infected and engorged, I was an 'H' and had no nipple. So I was told to stop feeding. Drying up from that was the worst thing ever.

anyone know what its like??

I didn't breast feed. In my case, they wrapped my breasts in an ace wrap, to try to keep the milk from coming in. It didn't work and they still becoame engorged, then it just went away. It did hurt though!

It hurts really bad when they are engorged like they way you are. That's the way it was with my first- I did not want to breast feed then. I took an Ibuprofen and did the binding method (with an ace bandage and receiving blankets) and had shelf boobs- I could literally eat off my chest if I wanted too! My second one- I tried to breastfeed- she would not latch on very well and my milk just did not seem to come in!

Don't laugh but, you can wrap your breast in wet cabbage leaves, and it will dry your milk up, but usually if you don't bf you will still get engorged and then they will dry up. TO help with the pain and swelling, put 2 baby diapers together (seperately) like a baby is wearing them, soak them in water and freeze them, then put them on your breast. It helps!

As silly as it sounds, the cabbage leaves do work. With Aidan, I tried bf'ing, but couldn't produce enough milk, so I was supplementing with formula. The mastitis I got in my left breast hurt worse than it did when my milk came in.

also, soak in the tub with hot facecloths on your breasts, that always helped me. and the cold facecloth, i always kept one in the freezer, and after the tub i would switch to cold facecloths. it helped enourmouisly. and the advil. that also helps immensley. it only lasts a couple days though.

That's right about the cabbage leaves- I heard that after my second one and did not get to try it (for lack of production reasons!)- another thing I remember was the Dr. telling me not to face into the shower cause it can stimulate your breasts.

Back in 1991 i was given a pill immediately after i gave birth to dry me up. They don't give that pill out anymore,as i found out the hard way with my 2nd!!! I felt like i had boulders on my chest and remembered feeling very sorry for dairy cows whenever we passed farms and seeing their udder bags huge with milk!!

When I weaned my son, I was engoraged for a couple of days, it's sore/uncomfortable (Don't bump into things!) but it will pass after a while. I've heard of the cabbage trick but never tried it. Good luck!

Ah yes...the **** star boobs (as Dh lovingly called them). I think they were bigger with #2 and with #1. By day 3, they were so engorged, I put ice on my chest and wrapped them with an ace bandage. I couldn't sleep for 2 days they hurt so bad. The pain and swelling went away after a couple days. I kept leaking pretty bad for about 2 more weeks. I didn't completely dry up until after about 7 weeks.
