I was 12 - my dad was completely against the idea of me and my sister getting our ears pierced, even though we had been begging for it for years, so my grandmother took us to get it done.
My grandma pierced my ears when I was an infant. That might be why they are not even. I have since had my ears pierced about 8 times. My mom let me choose to get a second hole when I was 12.
My mom told me I had to take care of them myself.... so I think I got them done at around eight or nine, about the same age I started to exclusively do my hair.. pick out my clothes etc.
I had mine done 3 times by the time I was 10....Every time I had an allergic reaction to the stuff that they used, and to the metal that was in the earring. (This was back in the 1980's)...I haven't had them pierced since, so I don't wear earrings. My mom keeps asking me when I am getting DD's ears pierced, and honestly I don't see the need to.
Around 6th grade (mid-70s). I also had the allergic reaction & had to have them close up a few months later. I wear clips.

I was 5. I begged to have them done. They did both ears at the same time and actually said ready, aim, fire. Which freaked me out and I can remember looking at myself in the mirror a crying mess. But I'm glad I had them done then, I can imagine I talking myself out of it as I got older.

We didn't have a 'rule' in our house. It wasn't really on the radar. When our ped got the piercing gun in his office, we all got them done (even my Mom). I was 12 and my sisters were 8 and 14.
