If you were throwing a baby shower for a family member, and everyone was pitching in and bringing food to the party, would you think it was appropriate to tell people where to buy the food and how much to spend? Like if you asked someone to bring veggies and dip, would you think it was ok to say "I would like you to buy the veggie platter at Hannafords and the one we need is $50.00" or do you think it should be left up to them?

I don't think it is appropriate at all to tell people where to buy it or how much to spend. It is quite tacky!

I think it's appropriate to tell people what you need then cross that off your list when they commit, but I would never tell someone how much to spend. I think that is rude.

This Is True!
While I think it is rude as well. This is what some people do.
I made the mistake once offering to Bring a fruit platter to a friends party. She said Sure..... "You can order one from ________ Market, that is where I always go. " And she proceeded to give instructions on what to order.
I said ok , I bought what she said and I lived and learned for the next time.

No way is that appropriate.
Tell me what you want me o bring, and I will get the brand that my budget from the store that is most convenient for me to get to.
Don't like the brand I get? Don't eat it - more for everyone else.

Absolutely not appropriate. That would piss me off if someone did that to me.

Why would it matter how much it cost?
