I decided i want to get a bunny. I posted for one on freecycle and i got a great response. The lady has a 7 month old dwarf dutch mix. He's black and white and his name is Columbus.
I get the bunny, cage, water holder and bowl all for free.

Please tell me about your bunny and if you enjoy having it for a pet. Is it an indoor or outdoor bunny. What does it take to care for a bunny.

All the info that i need to know to make a good decision regarding if i should do this.

I use to have a fear of bunnies but after being exposed to one i really think i would enjoy having one.

My sister had two....but they didn't work out at all for her and her girls. The girls couldn't really play with them...or if they did let them out, they pooped all over the house, hid behind things, and even nipped at the girls. It is something she wouldn't repeat. Sorry for the downer!

we had them as kids growning up... ask first why this person is getting ride of it... some do bite... we has a total of 5 but at diffrent times. They can be house trainned.. our 2-3 ones we had at the same time were. they were also litter trainned and the cat and dog left them alone also. It is funny looking back at pics with the bunnies cat and dog all on the living room floor. MY mom must have been nuts. If you are going to house trian you have to make sure all your electical cords are off the floor the bunny will chew on them.. and you know where that will end up. If you keep them in a cage in the house just make sure the bunny does get out of cage time or will become not so nice and be afraid. HTH

I have 4 of them. Lola..who came to us pregnant, she had her litter and we got someone to take it. Then Lila came to us pregnant, we kept 2 females from her litter...Lilly and Layla. DD has a thing for L's! They live outside in a hutch DH built for them...half of it is enclosed for weather conditions.
If you'd like to make it an indoor bunny, they can be litter trained and it's very easy.
To care for them is VERY easy, fresh water and food every day (pellets) green leafy veggies are good for him and carrots and fruit should be fed to him sparingly (contrary to belief!..something like 1TBS per pound of body weight). I'd introduce the boys to it right away and let them get used to one another, the younger the bunny the easier it is......Our bunnies are great with the kids, they like to be picked up and petted (and never pick them up by the ears).
Sorry that was so long, but I hope it helped! You can always PM me!

We live on a ranch and have a different outlook on animals. People live in houses and animals live outside. We have rabbit out in a hutch by the barn. He is a grey dutch and a very nice rabbit. Step son shows him in the fair each year and win 1st. A rabbit makes a good pet if it is socialized early on.

Good luck and let us know.

We had one named Rudy for 6 years. He was wonderful. He was litter box trained. Very friendly and sweet. We eventually moved him out in a hutch outside and he still used his litter box.

None of you mentioned the territorial spraying. My sister had bunnies that did this (outdoor ones), and my bil and sil had one that did this.

Also, make sure they can get exercise. My bil kept his in a cage all the time. The bottom was wire, and there was no comfortable place for the little guy to lay down. He just huddled in the corner of the cage all the time. He was so sweet, but his cage always smelled. They even kept his cage in a closet sometimes. Don't know why they bothered having one. I think I'm in a mood tonight. Probably because dd had her 15 mo. checkup and got three shots, two attempts at a blood draw - no go, have to do it again, and told I have to have her lose 10 lbs. 10lbs on a baby is a lot and hard.

Some males can be territirial and spray..not all...you can have them neutered and it may/may not alleviate it. Females (if they are not going to be bred) should be spayed b/c they have a very high instance of ovarian cancer...But yours is a male, so I didn't bring it up.....

We have had a rabbit for about 5 years now. It lives outside and is very harty even in our MN winters.

Very easy to take care of and ours is really friendly. (we played with it a lot when it was little).

Pretty low maint. pet.

Thanks to all of you!!!!!!

When you say get it young....is 7 months still considered young? I mean i'm hearing they live for years so 7 months would still be a baby right? Still trainable?

I think ours would have to be outside but i already have guilt about it being in a cage so i was thinking of building something like a chichen coop so he has a fenced in area that he can always have access to.
