I didnt want to steal the other thread so I thought id start one of my own. my Mil goes to the extreme opposite all of a sudden she is trying to be so "fair" this year that she is buying alot of duplicates so each child has the same thing. Well my children are different from each other and are definately different from their cousins. Again its not about the gifts but if you are going to give them couldnt you take the childrens interest and ages in to acount. Oh and yes how do I tell her I dont really need 3 of things. I know the suggestion is to just exchange them quietly but they always insist that the kids open and set up their gifts. Any suggestions

my grandmother never made it a secret who she favored, nd its only been lately that she has stopped with it so much. now she trys to show us equal love and generosity. before it was only for my sister. i will never show favoritism towards my kid, and i will not allow someone else to either.

That is a tough one. I generally say no we won't set up the toys because we don't want to lose pieces and it is just easier to wait until we get home. We have encountered getting multiples so our kids don't have to share. I don't really like it but just leave it.

I don't like multiples of the same item for my kids, I teach them to share. My MIL wants us to buy the same thing for her 2 adopted dds b/c they don't share and they will fight over things. I think that is crazy, but oh well. However in your case I don't see how you could politely get out of it so you might just have to suck it up and accept whatever she gives and you can always sell it on craigslist once you get home.
