Nice - very home-town-ish.
Our day started early because a neighbor had planned a neighborhood bicycle parade (our subdivision is laid out in a circle - like a race track). DD had invited a few of her friends from another neighborhood to join us. So we were up making coffee and trying to locate lawn chairs.
It was fantastic! It was the best neighborhood parade we have ever had. Guys came out with the lawnmowers. One guy drove his big truck with music playing and a trailor where four neighbor girls were dancing a routine. A few neighbors brought out their horses and others brought out their 4x4s and one had a dune buggy. We had more kids riding decorated bikes than ever lived in the neighborhood.
This year, due to budget cuts, our town didn't have a fireworks display. Frankly, hubby and I weren't sure what we were going to do. We told DD not to get her hopes up.
While we were surfing channels we hit upon a news update that said the town the next town over was having an Independence Day party at a nearby park which, of course, would end in fireworks which would start in about an hour. Hubby and I finished watching the TV program we were into then I said, "Let's go."
I put the park into my GPS and I couldn't believe we didn't run into traffic as we got closer to the park. We were within 2/10s of a mile when I realized we had better park the car. We ended up walking into the park because it didn't make sense to stay too far away. We were pretty much under the fireworks just as they started to go off! The display wasn't long or anything spectacular but DD loved it. She said she had never been so close.
To make things even better we got out of our parking space and back home without any delay - AT ALL
