When I woke up at 6:30 it was 22 at our house. By 7:00 it had warmed up to 23. My dh, who is a running enthusiast and has been encouraging me to do this for awhile, was REALLY pushing for me to stay home. He just didn't want to risk any ice from sprinklers, asthma attacks from the cold, whatever. I think he wanted me to semi-enjoy the environment of running so I will do it again. So, I skipped the 5K portion.
BUT, my friend who was helping to organize it called me at 8:30 to tell me the Fun Run (1 mile) for the kids was at 9:30 and it was warming up so she talked me into bringing the boys out for that. It was about 35 degrees at that point and sunny. My oldest (6) took off on his own and my four year old wanted me to hold his hand as he ran and then, at the halfway mark, to carry him on my back!! So, I ran a half mile with a 40 pound child on my back. We finished dead last because he did run the last quarter mile and he was sloooowwww, but he would not take a shortcut as I and the workers were encouraging. I was very proud of him.
Thank you for the prayers. It was COLD!!! My poor dog was so cold she slept in between dh and me and just shivered part of the night. I tried to keep her warm and keep her under the covers, but she would not go for that. I was chilled to the bone last night when I got home from the beach. (That was where dh's Christmas party was!) It was a whopping 18 then!! The Fun Run was a good time, warmer and I didn't feel like I wasted the registration money. I won't do one again until it is warmer!!! So, I still have my first 5K to do, I guess. Thanks for asking!
