This is really ment to be a bit silly, and not pointing fingers....

But some of the threads lately. Are they all honest?

I mean, no one's kids have tv's in there rooms.... Yet the average child watches over 5 hours a day.

No one gives there child a sip of soda pop.... Yet obesity is on the rise....

No one seems to feed their child their halloween candy...

Is it just that we MS gals are more informed about these things and are sorta a core group?

LOL - you know me - I was a lot more permissive with M'ija than a lot of her friends' moms, but, for the most part, by not having too many things verboten, she learned how to enjoy things like tv, sugar, and as she got older, alcohol, in moderation. By the time she moved into her first apartment, she had some self-discipline. Not so for some of her friends whose parents sat on them - once they moved into a dorm, they went nucking futs.

Maybe those who do aren't posting?

Who'd want to have all the "good" moms expressing horror that you let your child do those things. LOL

I think sometimes people are afraid to be honest -- let's face sometimes people can be mean on here.

I had to think about the pop thread. Like I said if isn't an issue with DD but my DS ... he would drink the stuff non-stop if I let him. Which I don't. But man, he loves the stuff. I have always felt it was a slight on my parenting ... or my DH's or my mother who gave him the stuff in the first place.

I represent all those kids who were glued to the TV while growing up. Yes, despite my SIL being a teacher and tracking my TV viewing habits with great alarm, I was proud of my extensive knowledge of the TV guide and my 40 hr/week TV habit was completely normal. I got good grades and read a lot too. So, even those of us with what some might consider shockingly bad habits can grow up completely normal - just like me!

I am honest. My boys don't have tv's in their rooms, but they watch a ton of tv. They can eat all the Halloween candy they want. I don't buy pop for my kids unless we are out somewhere. I let them even have Moutain Dew if they want, I don't care and it doesn't affect them at all. BUT...there are times I do not post at all when everyone is on the "high and mighty" I can't believe you let your child do that train! No one wants to be beat up by a bunch of moms who think their way is better than yours.

This made me laugh. LOL There are times I will wait until another mom posts something before I admit to it...

But I do know that sometimes I can be the mom who is horrified by something and I do get a little passionate about it, when I shouldn't.

I guess now would be the opportune time to admit that my kids have been watching Freakazoid for the past hour. And that I don't let them eat all their Halloween candy because I always beg some off them for myself first.

I think some of the questions are worded to elicit certain responses. For example, if the original poster expresses outrage at something and then asks if someone else does it, most people who do won't respond that way (except for the very vocal among us).

You can also read a lot into a response. My kids don't have tvs in their rooms and never will until they have a job and can buy them for themselves, but I never said my kids didn't watch tv. I think it's an assumption that kids who don't have one in their room watch less - my reason for not having them in their room is not to limit their time as much as to have control over what they watch.

I would bet that most people read a whole lot more posts than they reply to - if someone was required to weigh in on every single issue they read about you would get a better picture of their life as a whole. You would also have a bazillion posts a day to wade through.
