I was at the Gap over the weekend, buying some pants for DS. The salesgirl asked me how old he was and I told her we were looking for size 10 pants. She asked me again, how OLD is he? LOL Well...he's 11. So she said "we don't have size 11 pants, you'll have to get 12". So I said, I know what size he is in Gap pants and he wears a 10. So she said again, we don't have size 11. LMAO! Then she "explained" that kids fit in the size that is their age. Wugh. I finally just told her 'no problem' and got away from her.

Both my kids are on the smaller size for their age group, so often, they've not fit in the size for 'their age' at all times in their life.

M'ija was always tall for her age, and NEVER fit the "size = age" model.

No.....

My daughter is almost 5, but wears a size 10. She is so tall. Just shy of the height of my almost 7 year old son (who is wearing a size 8). Shopping for her is HORRIBLE. Everything in her size looks like Hannah Montanna!!!

That is about when I discovered Gymborree and Childrens Place. I HATE the cost, but at least the look in somewhat age appropriate.

Nope. My little one needs a long cut 3T shirt or a 4T shirt because she is tall in the torso. She mostly wears 2T pants but can wear a pair of 3T if the are rolled up. She is only 2.

My oldest is super skinny and wears a size below her age.

My oldest usually wears a size larger than her age due to her height. She is 6 and wears a 7/8.

My youngest will be 4 next month and wears a 4.

Oh and by the way, the sales person was interesting!!

No. Both of my kids are really tall. My oldest just turned 9 and he wears a 10 slim in pants and a 10/12 in shirts. My youngest turned 4 a couple of months ago and he wears a size 6!

Mine do and always have. They're so average. But ds wears the 'husky' of whatever size and dd wears the 'slim'. Darn those genetics!

dd has never followed the size age thing after 3months old.
She is 4 will be 5 in March and wears a 5 slim. If I put her in 4 pants she looks like she is wearing capris, and just forget about 4 shorts OMG she is showing WAY to much leg for a 4 yr old.
I think by that sale person doing that sounds to me like she was newer and just found that information out a lot of kids to go by that but not all.
