My DD had her teeth checked like usual by the mobile dentist that visits her school twice a year. UGH she has 5 cavities. She went through a stubborn phase of not brushing well and refusing to use much toothpaste. Now she brushes just fine. Thank God for dental insurance but this stinks. The teeth with cavities are in 4 different quadrants which means she will need to make 4 different visits.

Sounds like she was blessed with Grandma's teeth.

One of my sons went through a similar stubborn phase about brushing. The first time he had to have a cavity filled he saw the light. Now he's good about brushing. Some kids just have to learn the hard way. *sigh*

Definately keep in mind that some people are definately more susceptible to decay than others...even with excellent tooth brushing/flossing.

Have you considered sealants?

We will have to make 5 appointments total. 4 for cavities and 1 for sealants. Boy will those be fun with little DD in tow. Of course it does not help that our dental insurance is great but limits who we see. I told my husband he better change it over to the higher end one next year. I want more of a choice without having to go broke.

Any one know the general price difference between metal and composite fillings. My lovely DH said he absolutely will not allow metal fillings in our DDs mouth. So he wants the best for baby teeth. Ugh.

I have a booklet from my dentists office that lists all their prices. Metal fillings start at $90.00 and composite fillings start at $150.00 Obviously your dentist may charge something different, but this gives you an idea of the price difference.

So far, my kids have been really lucky and no cavities. Oldest dd and ds have been really good about brushing and flossing.

Hope your insurance will cover most of it!

Looks like 90% of the treatment and fillings will be covered. Our insurance also gives us the choice of metal or composite fillings without penalties.

Warning on the sealents as they contain BPA (and not low levels). Also, a new article came out that dentists should not put metal fillings in children under five due to possible mercury issues. Even my new parents mag had an article on the fillings.

Interesting.....I am a registered dental hygienist and I have never heard of sealants having BPA. Have to do some more research.......
