We dont have very good dental insurance. My son needs a cleaning and I made an apt with a random dentist on our plan. We dont have a dentist yet. The secretary scheduled it for this Thursday.
Now, Im nervous because Im wondering, if this is a good dentist, why does he only schedule people a few days out? Shouldnt he be booked solid for at least few weeks?

Did they actually say that he only schedules a few days out? I guess I would find that kinda odd (contrast to my experience with our dentist), but I probably would have asked why if they told me that, because maybe the answer was reasonable. Kwim?

I really wouldn't worry about it to be honest. They might just have had some openings and were able to fit you one.

The dentist that I just picked had tomorrow at 945am due to a cancelation, so maybe that was the case with you. Someone canceled.

I wouldn't sweat it. A number of things could have happened.

A lot of people don't have dental insurance and don't have the money, so maybe people aren't visiting the dentist as often...

Good Luck!

our dentist is a great great dentist, and they have REALLY slowed down, because of the economy... that could be why.

If they come back and say he has 50 cavaties etc... then I would get a second opinion, but try not to sweat it at this point!

Is there anyone online who has given this dentist a review?

Ive been trying to get some good reviews for the past two days! Ive called every dentist on the list withing a 45 minute radius. The reviews are either bad, or if they have good reviews, they dont take our awful unsurance anymore.

I think this is it exactly - around here, many dentists are feeling the economy. My advice would be to give him a try and hope for the best. A cleaning is a good start. Good luck!

I have a friend that works in a very good dental office, and their hours have been cut drastically. It is due to the economy. I also go to a good dentist office, and you can pretty much get an appointment whenever you want to these days just due to people not being able to afford the dentist.

I don't know about our dentist, but my son's allergist keeps several times open each week for new patients. It actually bugs me because I have to make our appointment six months in advance if I want an after school time, but I hear them scheduling those times for new patients while I am in the office. They want the business, so they would rather take the chance that the appointment won't be filled than to scare away new business by making them wait too long for an appointment.

I wouldn't worry to much, like the rest said either the office hours have been cut, they had a cancellation or the dentist may just keep some time open for new patients or emergencies that is what our old dentist did when he was alive, not sure if our new one does or not.

I don't think you can determine how good a dentist is by how long it takes to get an appointment. We have a great dentist and I know when we first started going to him I was able to get an appt. within a few days.
