at my workplace. I have been working here for 9 years this December. I have received promotions and pay hikes through the years. Just last week my boss came and told me I was doing a great job and to keep up the good work. This morning I come into work and am met with the news that some customer complained that I took too long to respond to a give him a return number on an item he wanted to return. I don't even remember talking him.......this customer is a sexist old man...who is always very rude to me. My boss takes me into his office and tells me that because of that incident (which by the way, did not let me explain or anything) he is going to take me off that territory and give it to someone else. I tried to ask why??? and he said that he is tired of this kind of stuff happening....I asked him what he meant by that as just last Thursday he told me I was doing a great job. He said he didn't have to explain himself to me...and for me to give all the paperwork to the new person in charge. I am dumbfounded........I'm sitting at my desk completely humiliated as I will have to help train this new person. I don't know what to do.....which I could just get up and leave.

First of all, I'm so sorry. I would approach your manager, some time later, and calmly discuss what happened. His decision may have either been a knee jerk reaction or something totally unrelated to you. I'd have the wait and see approach.

I'm sorry! That must have been awful, especially out of the blue like that!

Wow, I don't know what to say. That sucks. I agree, to try an approach him again later.

I would personally take this over his head. One disciplinary action is not a reason to take some one out of their job position and humiliate them. Now if you cussed at the old man or aimed a tirade his way maybe but just a common complaint come on.

I agree!

I would ask for a meeting with your boss and the next in charge.

Explain what happen, and how your boss wouldn't let your explain. Then the ball will be in his court, and he will have to explain to his boss, why he acted the way he did.

I know how humilated you feel, but don't let some "jerk" make you feel that way.
