Oh thats a great idea. Ive moved A LOT over the years with kids too. All I can say is pack a few boxes a day and leave the bare essentials out. Eat off of plastic and paper. Get as much boxed up as you can. If your moving far away, get a ream of packing paper from u-haul for your dishes, makes for easy put away at your new house. Mark the boxes (or take photos) well so you know exactly what room they go in when you get to your new house. My garages were always the challenge, lawnmowers, rakes, yard art things like that are a pain to move! Last but not least, have pleanty of people lined up on moving day if your moving yourselves. Have extra packing tape, black markers, rope, packing blankets and a refrigerator dolly for moving day.
Good luck!
