I'm not talking about 50 cents or a dollar on groceries or something. But mistakenly charged quite a bit. Just this week we've been MISTAKENLY charged for two things.
First our DD called us and told us she was trying to register for next semester and they wouldn't let her because they said she had a $245 fee not paid from orchestra. The 400 or so university honors kids, the athletes, and the special need kids all get to register first, and so she was panicked if it didn't get taken care of quickly she'd have to register with the rest of the 40,000 kids herd. So my DH is trying to discuss with her what it could be for, and she had no clue, etc. Well FINALLY between her & DH talking to the college, it came out that IT WAS A MISTAKE!!! Here we were all set to just pay the $245 fee so she could do the early registration.
Then I had an eye exam and was getting new glasses. So they look and see what insurance will cover. Spent an hour picking out new frames, etc, and even with insurance it cost me $380 which I thought was a lot. So then they call me the next day and said "Ooops....we made a mistake and you're going to have to pay $90 more". Now I love the doctor but the optical dept there drives me BATTY! I've had trouble with them before and complained to the doctor. So I just said, "No, I'll just use my old frames then and you'll have to pay me back the frame money I've already given you." The girl talks to the doc and says, oh never mind, they'd do me a favor and let me have them for the mere cost of $380!
So I don't really think either of these places were intentionally trying to rip us off, but GEEZ! Why doesn't anyone ever mistakenly UNDERCHARGE me hundreds of dollars. It seems the mistakes are always OVERCHARGING.

We had issues with our cell phone bill the past two months, since my husband upgraded his plan. They keep thinking we are over our minutes and are charging us per minute, even though we never come close to using up all our minutes. They've overcharged us by hundreds of dollars, and it is obviously a mistake. The annoying thing is that it wasn't fixed the first month when we called.

I got charged $15.00 for a can of campbell's chunky soup, twice.
I bought two cans at $1.50 each and they scan $15.00 each. I took the receipt back and one can of the soup and they gave me all of my money back, so I got the soup free.
But I wonder how many people got charged for the soup (the price was entered wrong in the computer) and didn't catch it!

We kept getting overcharged for our cell phones back when we had Cingular. They insisted that we had signed up for a different, more expensive plan. Himself went to the store with our contract in his hand, and they insisted that we had upgraded our plan, even though they had no documentation to prove it. This happened three months in a row - they sent us a bill for twice what our contract called for, he called them, they "fixed" it, promised it would never happen again, lather rinse repeat. After the third month of this, we cancelled the contract, paid the penalty fee, and switched carriers.

Yes, just yesterday on vacation! In the jewelry case they had two necklaces on one "post", the chains criss crossing each other. One said $69 underneath it, one said $84. I wanted the $69 one. They take it off, wrap it up, swipe my card, add tax and it was around $90. I looked, and told them they charged me for the wrong necklace.
No, we didn't, the chains became 'tangled' (so they said) and the $69 was really $84. I'm sure 99% of people would have just said, Oh, okay and paid the extra amount. But the $69 price tag was pushing it as it was, and I just nicely told them, "I do not want this, please credit my card, I'm returning it".
They did not offer to make up the difference, even though they were wrong with the price they were displaying. Just about everything is replaceable, I'll find the same type item somewhere else, but I was ticked.

I don't think I have ever been overcharged on something big but find the grocery store does it on a regular basis. I grabbed laundry detergent from the bargain area and it was supposed to ring up as $2.99 (and I had a few bottles) but they rang it up for $4.99. I went back to the bargain area and took the sticker off the shelf and brough it up to customer service showing the bar codes matched. They refunded the difference for the bottles plus tax.

I was overcharged $30 at the Marcs(discount grocery store) the items I bought were 3 for $5.00 the cashier rang it up $35.00!!(honest mistake, imo) I thought the bill was high when I wrote my check, so I went to customer service and got a refund!
Last year when we moved, I called DirecTV to move our service, what a HUGE PITA!! They always advertise that you get "free" HBO & Showtime when you move, well it took me 4 phone calls to get that straightened out, they kept charging me for the "free" channels, I would have told them NO if I'd known that it was going to be such a hassle!! grrr!
