I do love the donation in her name idea. I think that would be perfect. I would also give whatever I wanted to and NOT include a receipt.

I just thought of another idea! A nice little bag of mini marshmellows and then there is a poem that goes with it saying that instead of coal, this year she is getting snowman poop! :-) ok... done being mean~ LOL

Yea I would make darn sure I got something the kids would like but not on her list and certainly not include a recipt.
When she asked about it - I would just shrug my sholders and say Oops sorry no seems I forgot .

Last year I got each of the kids a board game from WalMart. I got them on sale for $5 each. I included the gift receipt so she could return them, of course.

She called me from WalMart and said "I'm here at WalMart returning these games and they're only going to give me $10!". So I said, well that's what I paid for them.

She got really irritated because "what in the world was she going to buy at WalMart for $10"! I didn't say anything but I could think of a few things...
This is about the rudest thing I have ever heard of someone (other than my mother) doing lol! Seriously, I would not waste a single cent on someone like this. Life is too short, and money is too hard to earn to waste it on someone who calls you in such a condescending way. I agree with the poster who suggested she buy a pair of pliers to get the cork out of her rear. Now, there's a gift that would bring you BOTH joy!

I'd be tempted to give her some ExLax too. Maybe her anger is caused by massive constipation.

My obnoxious SIL is fortunately not speaking to DH, because he offended her poor widdle brain by calling her on her gossipy ways, so I'm pretty sure I get a drama queen free Christmas this year.

Yes, I can't help to think of all the mean ways to get back at her. My favorite would be to get her personalized stationary, a Snapfish book of family photos, or something that has been monogrammed.

On the flipside, however, I can't help but feel a great deal of pity for this woman. Something must have happened somewhere in her life where she was really disappointed by gifts she has received. What happened to the joy of Christmas for her? Still, we have no control over the people our family marries. Your brother found her attractive somehow.

My advise ... focus on the fun parts of your family celebration. Get her what is on the list (maybe a nicer version of it, though, for instance if she asks for a Monopoly board game, get her the nice anniversary edition; a sweater - get her cashmere, etc) then have fun with the gifts you get the rest of the family.

If I thought she'd love a cashmere sweater, I would totally get it for her...but the fact that she'll appear in front of me after she opens it or will scrunch up her face in dislike when she sees it, just make me not want to even go beyond her list to buy her anything.

I have tried to get her lovely things and they've gone over like lead balloons.

I did get her some olive wood salad servers in Italy once...she wasn't a fan of them, AND couldn't return them! Her Dad came to one of our holiday gatherings once and gave her a set of knives. She told him she didn't want them and he could just return them.

She usually sends out her list over Thanksgiving weekend...I'll keep you guys posted!
