I was just on Facebook and one of my friends that lives just about a mile from me, posted that she found out her new neighbor is a child molester.

She spoke with the parole officer and was told there was nothing she could do. All the neighbors are now aware that he is a convicted child molestor and they all want him OUT of the neighborhood. Even though its not MY neighborhood, I'm freaked out that he is that close to us. Its extremly close to the old wooded trail I found my girls riding thier bikes on last summer. (When I found them, I dragged them home and grounded them for going too far without permission, then put a fear into them that anyone could be lurking on that trail)

Anyway, she and her neighbors want this guy OUT of thier neighborhood. ARe there any legal ways they can get him out of the area?

I know here the law says they can't live within so many miles of a park/daycare/school but that's about the only restrictions. As long as they are registered and check in with their parole officer, nothing you can do at least in NC.

I checked online about 2 weeks ago and we have 47 registered within a 5 mile radius of our house.

Is he a sex offender or child molester? That can mean two different things. I know in MN many years ago a boyfriend and girlfriend had sex, he was 20 and she was 17, he was arrested and found guilty of having sex with a minor. They are now married to each other with kids and he has to list himself as a sex offender.

I am fairly certain there is nothing legally that you can do to force him out of the neighborhood. Sorry, wish there was more the system could do so that child molesters were in prison for life!

Lasay has a good point. Try to find out the arrest information if you can. I know we have a website here in WI that lists sex offenders by zip code or name. They don't always tell us if it's a situation like Lasay listed above or a real child molester.I wished they would do that.

There is nothing you can do unless he is violating a law about living too close to a daycare or school.

He could be on the list for something as simple as peeing outside on a tree.

Personally I'm more worried about the ones that haven't been caught.

Educate your children. Make sure they know stranger danger type of things and which house to avoid.

I just checked her post and lots of other people were saying the same thing. She updated a minute ago to say that it was a sexual crime against a 6 year old.

Yikes!

The only thing I've heard of that works is a picket where people basically march in front of his house with signs until he is forced to live elsewhere.

Crimes like this should mean life in prison with zero chance of parole.

Thats what I said too. My post was he has no rights, he forfeited them when he committed this crime. The child he molested has the right to see him rot in prison!

I don't know what will happen. Apparently I do know this person, though she isn't naming names right now. He moved in with his parents across the street from her, he has no job, and will pay no taxes, yet the taxpayers have no say in the matter.

There is not much you can do. Just keep your eyes open and keep your kids close. You could go as far as looking up a picture of him to show your children.

Also keep in mind not all offenders are molesters and rapist. Based on some states guidelines you can simply be 1 year older than someone who is considered under age and have relations and be an offender. For example a 15 year old and a 16 year old having relations. The older one can be forced to be put on a registry. I hate to say it but that would have made me one when I was 18 and dating a 17 year old. We started dating at when he was 15 and I was almost 16. You have to keep that in mind.
