Are they running out of vaccines yet? Giving it only to people who are high risk?

As of last week, they didn't have the vaccines yet. I'm guessing when they do get them they'll only be availble for high-risk patients. H1N1 went through our house last week, so it's too late for us.

In my community, we have 29 confirmed cases of H1N1, at least that is what I heard from a local pharmacist a couple of days ago. The elementary schools were given the immunization, two weeks ago. And, depending at which school you were at, some adults received it as well. The high school was supposed to give theirs out last week but evidently that has been postponed until December.

I'm not exactly sure why my area received them so quickly. I do know, back in August (I think) that Washington State University had 100's of suspected cases of swine flu. WSU is only seven miles from the University of Idaho and you can pretty much figure that if one school has it then so did the other. We're only three hours from both of those schools ... maybe that is why we received it so quickly? I don't know. That purely is me speculating.

I haven't been following the H1N1 thing in our area, but I think it's the same as other areas -- the shots are only being given to high-risk individuals.

As for people contracting H1N1 here, some people are getting but it's not at an epidemic level.

Wait times for the vaccine are nuts but at least we still have some...running low for sure and some places are out but we have more shipments arriving.
As of Oct. 28th we were at 111 confirmed cases of H1N1 in my city. Out of that number 26 were admitted to hospital and 4 of them were to ICU. God only knows how many people are out there with H1N1 that's gone undiagnosed therefore unreported .

It's definitely going around and doctor's are on high alert and being very cautious, taking possible cases very seriously.

High risk patients are getting the shot and there is a wait for others. They are only guaranteeing it to folks that meet the qualifications right now: pregnant, young children, parents with young infants, adults and children that are immune compromised.

The supply of Tamiflu is low too. My ds's ped thought he had H1N1 this week and since I am pregnant and in the 3rd trimester, they started both of us on Tamiflu immediately while waiting for the test results as a precaution. When dh went to pick it up, the pharmacist couldn't believe we actually got our hands on it since there is such a shortage and you have be pretty high risk to get the prescription.

It's spreading through the schools fast! Some of the doctors offices around here can't order the test due to cost for some reason. So we probably have more that hasn't been confirmed. As for shots their offering them to high risk individuals.

The only folks I hear talking about it are you guys here on this forum. None of my friends w/ kids are talking about it. No one at work is talking about it.

That is unbelievable to me! We are knee deep in pandemic awareness (hysteria actually LOL) here!!!!!!!!!!! Our Er's are overflowing with people and we have been forced to open ER Flu Assessment clinics within our hospital just to handle everything!!!!! People are also lining up outside the vaccine clinics at like 4-5am and the shots don't even start to be given out until after 2pm!

I wonder if it's worse here. At one high school 300 out of 1200 kids are out sick. At a public school 125 out of 400 are sick. A 13 year old died from it last week, a two month old yesterday. It's all anyone's talking about around here!
