WARNING: I heard reviews of Disney's A Christmas Carol w/ Jim Carrey this morning & they were not what I expected.

First of all, be aware that the movie is rated PG.

The reviewers (some were children & some were adults) said they would not recommend the movie for anyone under 10 years old. They said the movie is kind of scary for little children.

My boys are 9 & 3. My 9 year old wants to see it & I think it will be OK for him, but we will not be taking our 3 year old to see it.

AS anyone seen it yet & what age minimum would you recommend? Where your kids scared?

I am not surprised by the pg rating. First of all, Disney films usually have sad or scary parts in them. Also, the ghosts in this story have been somewhat scary in all versions on film.

I personally have not seen it but want to. You might check the site rotten tomatoes for reviews.

The way Dickens wrote the story, it IS scary. He gave it a happy ending, but he never intended it to be fluffy bunnies and rainbows.

A friend went to the sneak peak and loved it. Her kids are 5 and 9 and loved it. She says a few parts might frightened some kids but the best part was that the entire theater was silent the whole movie. According to her, the movie where the wild things are is so much scarier than this.I think my kids will love it.

I've heard bad things about it and that it isn't for the under 8 crowd, so we will probably skip it.

I agree. The original Dickens version, and some of the past film versions HAVE been scary. It wasn't originally written as a children's story.

We saw it this afternoon with my DDs ages 9, 8, and 2 and my 3 yo nephew and it was way more intense than I expected!
The entire thing besides the last 15 min was pretty scary even for my older daughters and it was nonstop...guess I didn't think they would make it quite that dark but the younger kids just ended up in our laps, no crying though.

We hope to be able to see this movie, but we won't take our 4YO.

I saw a preview for it last night and the boys didn't even like what they saw on the TV. The announcer also mentioned it was not appropriate for "younger children".

So with that said, we have a 6 and a 4 year old and I don't think we'll be spending the money to see it on the big screen.
