I have a sore heel, and just realized that it's been going on for over a month! Has anyone had anything like this? It's on the very bottom of my left heel. It's almost like a pulled muscle pain. It's so bad that it's hard to start walking on it. As I stay on it, it'll get better, and eventually, I can stop limping, unless I'm on it too long. I've changed to about 3 or 4 different shoes, and tried wearing slippers around the house to cushion it. I realized last night that the heel is actually swollen! I have a checkup later in the week, but it's with a regular doctor, not a podiatrist. She tends to refer out for the smallest thing.

What's puzzling is that I remember having some kind of heel/ankle problem about a year to a year and a half after my son was born, too. Little diva is 16 months old. But I don't remember it being this bad, or swollen. I've tried stretching the muscle, but to no avail. Epsom salts do no good, and I just don't have the chance to sit in a foot bath. Any ideas out there? I'm kind of worried about some type of unseen infection. No skin has been pierced or anything. I originally thought it was from some new Sketchers sneaks I got, but I stopped wearing them.

Could it be a heel spur? I don't know exactly what one is but I have heard of them- being painful and all. Ouch- there is nothing more uncomfortable than feet problems! I hope you can figure it out!

Sorry, I just checked Web Md- you may have either a heel spur or planter on your heel. They mentioned something like icing it, taking ibuprofren and inserts for your shoes. From what I quickly read it is kind of associated with the achilies tendon. I hope that helps you some!

Sounds like a heel spur. If that is what it is, I've had them in the past. They are painful and annoying, but they do eventually go away. One day you just notice that your heel doesn't hurt anymore. Best of luck to you. I hope it goes away soon.

Any idea what causes a heel spur or fascitis? I'm going to google it, too. Thanks. Something's gotta give. The ibuprofen doesn't work for some reason.

Yes, sounds like a heel spur. A friend of mine recommended arch supports before when I had a terrible case of this, and I didn't really think they'd work but tried them anyway...and they DID work!!! I just bought some Dr. scholl's inserts. It may take a few days but it will work. Good luck!

Heel spur or plantar fasciitus. I have the PF & ended up in physical therapy, had a handicapped sticker for parking for 6 months, and had to replace all my shoes w/ birkenstocks 5 years ago. I can now wear another type of shoe for maybe a day, but then right back to the birks. Both my sisters have it. My one sister can still wear most shoes. My other sister just got it recently so she's in active care mode.

Ice it twice a day. Before you get out of bed or up from sitting a long time, you must stretch it. Do foot circles, spell the alphabet with your toes, or reach down & pull back on your toes so the bottom of your foot is stretching.

For detailed info, go to www.heelspurs.com - they will tell you all you need to know to care for either condition. Take an anti-inflammatory as well.

It hurts when you first start walking on it because the tendon has shrunk down during the night. When you get on it again w/o stretching it, you are re-injuring it all over again. That is why it takes forever to heal. And I mean forever - especially if you don't go in for physical therapy. Don't let them operate until a last resort - if NOTHING else works. Also, the doctor should show you how to wrap the foot in an ace bandage to give you better arch support to ease the pain. Once the pain is eased up, you might need arch supports in your shoes. That didn't work for me, hence the birkenstocks.

As Calamari mentioned--the alphabet thing with your foot works really well.

Mine was so bad I would literally cry when I would try to walk at school--it was so painful!

I got some really great arch supports from a podiatrist and all is well now. But no more cheap (quality) shoes for me. Also, I usually walk around bearfoot or in slippers---and that's really bad I guess.

That's probably my problem. We have a no shoes rule in the house, hence being barefoot much of the time. The icing didn't do much yet, so I'll keep trying that, and the exercising helps just a little. I actually did have physical therapy when this happened after my son's birth, but it didn't do anything. I'm now feeling tension in my Achilles tendon, so something's up. Gonna keep a stretchin'.
