Oh hi!!

I got a call from my mom last night. Grandpa's surgery went well.

He's not in any pain which makes the doctor's think that his break was his replacement knee. They went in and said it wasn't as bad as they thought. When I asked what broke they said his FEMUR, but everything she was telling me related to his replacement knee so I am completely confused. If his break was his femur I would think he'd be in much more pain. That is a huge break, is it not? Anyway, when I asked if they put any rods in his leg, she didn't know that answer either...which makes me think they didn't. He's got a brace on his leg and will have a cast later on ~ how much later, I don't know. (my family is useless with info...I"m calling the hospital later today).

Mom said that the docs are treating him like he's a healthy sixty year old man ~ when really he's 85. He is built like a horse and as strong as one too (he has a team of belgian horses so maybe that's his driving force). It eases my mind to know the docs feel good about everything ~ I just hate thinking about Grandpa in the hospital.

When I call the hospital later, I will give a much more detailed update...thanks for your concern. (hugs)

Christy, I am glad the surgery went ok. I will await to hear what you find out when you call the hospital. I am like you, I like to get firsthand information.

I meant to update you all about this and forgot

I called the hospital and got a nurse who was absolutely rude to me. The more rude she was, the more persistent I became. I'm thinking to myself "I am calling about my grandfather. I live in OK. YOU are going to answer my questions". She seemed so put out by it.

Anyway, from what little she said, she told me he was resting comfortably and doing well. When I asked about his surgery she said "That is a doctor question. you'll have to ask him". So I didn't know if he got rods in his legs or not.

Today when I spoke with my mom, she said she and dad went in to see him last night and that Grandpa is on some pain meds which is making him hallucinate a little. They did put screws in his knees and when they did that, his bone splintered a bit. The man is 85 afterall so they are keeping an eye on that. They predict he could be in the hospital for a week or so or until the swelling goes down.

That is all I know so far

Thanks again ladies for your concern and your prayers.
