My daughter is 13 months and I think she has a molar coming in. She has had a runny nose for about 2 weeks now and lately she has been whiny. I noticed that her molar (gum) looks huge and looks like it could burst. She was running a fever of 101 and I gave her Motrin...still she is warm. Tonight b/f she went to bed, I gave her more Motrin. She woke up an hr later screaming. I tried ambesol swabs and teething tablets. She was still miserable...I finally gave her some cold milk and she went to bed 1 1/2 later. Is it really this bad when molars come in or what? What can I do to ease the pain? Any suggestions? Help please!!

Oh the poor thing, it must be so painful. Check with her doctor, but I think you can alternate motrin and tylenol to bring a fever down. I also used to give my boys a wet, cold wash cloth to bite on. For some reason it helped them.

The first molars are dreadful. There's a lot of surface to break through. The subsequent ones really aren't bad. It's like they get used to it. It really does sound like you're doing everything, but another thing to think of is it's possible her ears are hurting, and she could have an ear infection, what w/the fever. May be worth letting the Dr. look at them - I didn't even know the last few times dd had them, because she was not feeling well anyway, and there are nasty colds going around.

My son was extra sensitive during teething - we had to have dentist strength Anbesol (20%!), but you would have known that by now w/the earlier teeth.

Hylands tablets help w/teething, but aren't long lasting. Also, if it's the ears, the pharmacy has some OTC drops that numb the pain. Some swear by garlic oil. If the doc says it is an infection, ask for an rx for the rx drops - some don't offer them until you ask.

A frozen wash cloth or frozen peas helped with my son's molars, too. Good luck!

I so know what you mean, when my kids were teething I bought some steak fries for them to knaw on, they turned mushie as they sucked so they were not a choking threat.. They also sell these teething things at target that you can place an apple wedge in or an ice cube or even frozen grapes, there locked in mesh so they don't come loose...

I know these do not help for the night time. have you had her ears checked, infections tend to go hand in hand with teething and that could be why shes running a fever.....

good luck, hope these help
