anyone have any suggestion's - my 4 year old girl has red hair - very curly - like the shirley temple look I really have a hard time in the mornings - I spray it with water and then try to detangle it - well-- you would think major torture was going on by her screams and whines - anyway I have tried just about every thing I could think of to help it get tangled - I have a satin pillow cover for her I have even started to put it in a ponytail at night - not much improvement - love her hair but boy is it a pain thanks for any advice. My dd also has very curly hair that is hard to detangle and comb out in the mornings. I find that a detangler for curly hair or just a detangler in general helps alot. Also, I bathe my dd at nite and spray the detangler in right before she gets out of the bath so it has some time to work and then comb her hair out. This helps a bit for the mornings too. HTH

Morrismomaof2 This is funny that you were the first one to reply - from what I can tell in your avatar picture my Elysa looks alot like your daughter If I knew how to post or email apicture I would do it wish I could make your picture bigger because the look so much alike! My daughter has more red than blonde hair. I pour on the conditioner after shampooing then spray conditioner after that and all sorts of cremes - her hair is very pretty after you wash it - just looks like a birds nest in the morning-- thanks Robin

My #6 child has red hair like that. It falls into Shirley Temple curls if it is long enough. Fortunately, he is a boy and we usually have it too short to do that!! He hates his curly hair, but I would kill for it!

I have the same kind of hair. When I was little so many people told me I looked like Shirley Temple that when people started asking me my name I would answer "Shirley Temple"
I use the Aussie leave in condition and frizz cream.
I am glad my boys don't have the curly hair!

It's very pricey but you could try checking out the Ouidad website. She now has a hair care line for kids. Oh, the site has products just for people with curly hair. I've bought it a couple times before and really liked it.

I have very curly hair and it is really dry and can be frizzy. I have started taking my shower at night and washing my hair. I put in Infusium leave-in treatment while my hair is soaking wet. Then I towel dry, add a conditioning cream and gel spray and go to bed with it damp, a towel on my pillow. I wake up to wonderful curls that I do nothing to except spritz with water and re-spray with gel/hair spray. I get much more volume this way then I ever could using the diffuser on my hair dryer.

My hair is frizzy and red, too. Not so curly anymore, thank goodness. My daughter got the curly hair, but not the red frizz. When I wash her hair I sometimes put my conditioner on the ends and then comb it out, then I wash it with her 2-in-1 kid shampoo.

The two best tools I have for tangled hair is a wide tooth comb (sooooo important) and detangling spray. I never understood why more salons don't use wide tooth combs to comb out hair after they wash it. If you start at the ends and take it easy you won't pull or hurt the person you're working on.

I use one like this, but it has a handle on it:

You can buy them at Sally Beauty Supply or Ulta and sometimes at Walmart and Target. They're less than $3 and worth their weight in gold.

Good luck!

I already posted but I wanted to mention that our favorite detangler and the one that worked the best was from Great Clips. Im not sure where you live but you might want to check if they have a Great Clips where you are. The detangler is a childrens detangler and is in a blue bottle. Smells great too. When we used this on dd's wet or dry hair combing was ALOT easier. We havent bought it in awile since I havent been over to the part of town ours is in but this was definitely the best one that we have used.

The next time you have her hair cut, have them put in long layers.. It will keep the lenghth and make some pieces shorter. Much easier to detangle..
