Has anyone ever had to get Workman's comp?

Last Feb (A year ago today!) Dh was in a motor vehicle accident. The vehicle was owned by the company and he was out of work for 3 months in which they sent us payments from workman's comp. (yah right! Barely nothing, we are lucky we made it! Frugality at its finest)

Ayway, I'm ready to file my taxes and I have YET to recieve anything from workman's comp. Will they send us something?? Its FEB 9, we should have recieved something by the end of January, so I'm starting to assume we won't get anything. I keep telling dh to call them and of course he's dragging his feet, as usual.

I NEED to file NOW. And I just did a rough draft on Tax Act and we will be WELL if I can file with just what I've recieved so far. He's worried that I have to wait for comp to send something and that will just make the refund go down.
I'm ready to file and if something else comes in, go "oh well!" I got bills to pay, several items in collections that NEED to get paid off NOW.

Workman's Comp is generally consider insurance money. Insurance money isn't taxed. Why? I don't know but it isn't.

I looked through the 1040 instructions and found no mention of Workman's Compensation or Disability Income (other than retirement disability).

I think you're fine in not claiming it.

DH is on workers comp now. The booklet (more like a leaflet) we rec'd says workers comp pay is not taxable.

Now....how long did it take to get your first check, do you remember? According to the leaflet, its only 75% of AFTER TAX pay?? How can an insurance only cover such a little amount when youre hurt on the job.... how do they expect people to get by on that?? He's been out 2 weeks and no pay at all so far. I dont know HOW we're going to make it, we have no money to cover the bills. Just cleaned out what was in the savings account to cover the bills for this week (one was the mortgage).... I need to perform some magic to get thru this. And have no idea how long he's out either - doctor appt isnt until monday - dont even know whats actually wrong (hurt his knee).

I'd have to look through my records, I'm not sure when he got his first check. I know it took a while, a few weeks. He ended up being out of work from Feb 15 or something like that to May 11. I remember going about 4 or 5 weeks between checks, and the checks were only for $1500. I think we got 3 of them. It was less than $4000 for that whole time for a family of 5.

Yah, I can file with out them!! Hello HUGE refund!!!! Woohooooo!
