This is a spinoff from the "what is the first thing you notice about someone's home" thread. A lot of people said smell. Do you light candles, use freshener, or those little glade plug-ins? Do you use these daily, or only when company is coming? Just curious. I tried some of the new glade candles and they smell very good. I am partial to vanilla.

The one thing I do daily is air out my house in the morning. I open the windows for about 10 min. and it makes a huge difference. I have a very sensitive nose and I hate the smell of "sleep" in the morning. Plus we have 2 large dogs and they don't help... I also use some fresheners in the bathrooms and where our coats and shoes are. Plus I love to burn Yankee Candles in the living room. Whenever we have company coming and I think the house needs to smell a little better I spray some of that No Vacuum foam on the carpets, it also helps a lot! My husband calls me a little crazy, but my nose just works really well (which can be quite a curse sometimes ).

I like the idea of opening the wndows for 10 minutes in the morning. I do that weekly but it would probably be good to do it each day. I use the scented oil plug ins and candles occasionally.

I use apple scented candles in the kitchen and because my house has an open concept 1st floor it makes the whole downstairs smell yummy! The upstairs I usually open a wndow for a little while if it really smells, or spray lysol esp. during the winter. During the wamer weathe, I just open all of the windows.

i cant light candles unless they are vanilla...otherwise i get instant headaches and feel sick to my stomach.....it sucks cuz i loves candles!!! summer time i have all the windows open all the time unless its too hot and unbearable...which it has to be about 80 for me for that to happen.

One of my favorite things is the tart warmer. I worked in a Hallmark store years ago that carried Yankee Candles and the owner of the store said that the tarts are the absolute best thing (candle-wise) for dispersing scents. My sister bought me 2 nice sets of tarts from a little store near her in GA - they're called Home Sweet Home (very homey, cinnamony smell), and Sunflower (very Spring-smelling). I also LOVE the Ocean Mist tarts from Partylite (I don't buy anything else from them since they're so pricey, but those tarts smell better than any ocean-scented candles anywhere else). I really can only burn them in the warmer after my boys are in bed. I am totally paranoid about them going near the candles (they're 4 and 3). I used to like those Glade oil plug-ins and the Wallflowers from Bath and Body Works, but the boys are always messing with them (my older one has autism and finds things like that lots of fun to take apart!!). I've tried the Wisp fragrance system, but wasn't thrilled with it. It smelled nice about 3 feet in diameter around the little device, but that's it - you'd need a bunch of them to make the house smell nice. I like the No Vacuum foam idea and opening the windows for a few minutes daily. I'll keep those in mind. I also have to make absolutely sure that kitchen garbage is taken out daily and I always throw bad or spoiled food directly into the dumpster in the garage or down the garbage disposal. Makes a big difference. Also now that we are FINALLY diaper/pull-up free, that has helped loads.

I have a candle warmer that I love! And I also use the wisp puff. It is really small, (but so is my home) and it seems to put out just the right amount of scent.

Keeping the house clean is the first step, cause air freshners don't mix well with a closet full of stinky shoes or a full trash can. I have the Hawaain breeze oil plug in in the downstairs bathroom. I also have scented candles I'll burn sometimes. I love Yankee candles! The ones that smell like cookies. mmm! I also have a sensitive nose and the worst is when some little man misses the potty. I can smell it right away. eww

On a daily basis I use the Glade plug-ins...either a berry or vanilla smell...when company comes over or every once in a while, I light candles...I LOVE candles...the smells I usually use are mulberry, spiced vanilla, or a floral smell (which I can't remember the exact smell right now)
