I'm so sorry. I'm glad you are all safe. I hate it when things like that happen - we all probably have stories. (I was disinfecting bottles once in boiling water, forgot it in my new mommy stupor and fell asleep, woken to the alarm from the pot boiling dry and the plastic smoking.)

What a hassle, and you'll probably want that stove checked out from water being thrown on it. Will Magic Eraser work on the Microwave? I would be careful, in case the flames actually touched it and hit the circuitry. You may be looking at a couple of replacements there.

Oh my gosh thankfully you are all safe! I too just read an article about those voice recordable smoke detectors. I don't know that my boys would wake up to a regular alarm. but hearing your mom or dad's urgent voice sure would wake them up.

So glad you are ok. Hope all gets cleaned up. Done this before myself, but my whole house needed to be cleaned. The walls, windows, everything.

Those talking alarms would probably not work in my house, what teenager actually listens to their parents? Maybe i should just blast polka music thru them, that should send them out of the house screaming! lol

You are totally cracking me up...hilarious.

I know vioburn's situation isn't funny though and this could have very easily happened to us just last week. I had made brownies and put them in a tupperware container. Dd turned on a burner and didn't bother to see if anything was sitting near it. It melted out the entire end of my Tupperware container (and I do mean an expensive name brand Tupperware container...grrrr...) but fortunately our house is small and we smelled it quickly...it was a horrible mess trying to clean it all off of the stove, though...grrrr....

So glad your dh caught it quick!

Our's was the expensive Tupperware, too. One of those big popcorn bowl lids. Luckily we recently abtained a glass top stove, so the stove is fine, except for some burnt plastic that I have to scrap off in the morning with some razor blades or something. The microwave is the worst of it. DH was telling me that the flames were higher than the cabinets over the microwave, so we are really lucky that the cabinets didn't burn or turn black. Like I said before, we had some guardian angels watching over us. We are at my SIL's house tonight, because the smoke residue was giving me headaches and I was worried about the little ones breathing in the plastic fumes tonight while they slept. I'm hoping the smell has left by tomorrow morning. I'll give an update then.

Have a good night!
