I would try not to worry and just listen to your ped and other specialists...smile and nod to the rest. L.OL. There is such a wide range of 'normal' at this age! What does your ped say? Your ped can refer you to get evaluated for hearing/speech. My younger son had this done and our insurance covered it 100%.

I have four children, the youngest of which will be two in March. The first one talked early. The next three really did not say a word except mama and dada until after they were 2. I am hoping that will be the case for this last one. The pulling on my arm and having me follow him is getting really OLD!!

I send my prayers your way and I hope you get to the bottom of this soon. I would rather get too much medical help then not enough. I agree with these mommies, go with your gut!

You couldn't have done intervention earlier, you are doing the right things now at the right time. You son will talk. Continue with the tests you have scheduled.

If you don't do it already, talk to him all of the time. Explain every little thing you are doing, talking about the weather, anything but just keep talking to him. This will help unless the problem is his hearing. Boys do talk later than girls, and he'll come around. Intervention is a good thing.

I used to teach three year-olds with language delays. One successful game was to pretend we were animals and make animal noises. From there, it was just a short jump to language. Hang in there.

Cheers, from

My girlfriend's son has speech problems. He started private speech therapy shortly before his 3rd birthday then when he became 3 years old the school district started to provide his speech therapy free. Definately check with your school system about providing this service for you.

BTW, my friend's son speaks much better now.

As for your MIL, my advice is to NOT talk with her about the subject AT ALL and definately don't give her a piece of your mind. IF your husband wants to talk to his mother about it, that's fine and up to him. There is no 'putting your MIL in her place'. She won't listen.

Just a note about the developmental pediatrician as athomewith2 mentioned, yes they are pricey, but check w/your insurance. Our insurance paid for ours, except for our normal $20 copay. Having the official diagnosis on paper opened many doors to the help we needed.

My son was about the same age when I had him tested and he began speech therapy. You did the right thing. Don't listen to what the others are saying. You addressed the problem early enough and the fact that you son will be recieving services is a good thing.
